Aug. 28, 1963. The event: the Civil Rights March on Washington, D.C. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. declared: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character ... where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together. ... I have a dream that one day ... the glory of the Lord shall be revealed ... when all of God's children, black and white, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing. .. 'Free at Last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!'"
