If you still haven’t made up your mind about the presidential election two months from today, there’s still another option – Mel Gibson.
The star of “The Patriot” and “Braveheart” who also directed “The Passion of the Christ” is the subject of a new website called WriteInMelGibsonForPresident.org.
“It’s not a joke, it’s serious,” says Dr. Bob Hurt, the Phoenix, Ariz., dentist responsible for the site.
“If Arnold Schwarzenegger could carry California, then Mel could carry the U.S. easily,” he told WorldNetDaily.
On his website, Hurt writes:
“At fear of stating the self evident, there is, for all practical purposes, no difference in the stated objectives of Mr. Bush and Mr. Kerry. It’s tweedle dee or tweedle dumb. Why waste your vote on one or the other when the effective end result will be the same? …

“We surely need someone with courage, conviction, intelligence, imagination, dedication, and strength of character. We certainly don’t need someone who has come up through the political ranks.”
WorldNetDaily has not received any comment back from Gibson or officials at his studio.
Though many in the public might think Gibson’s life in Australia would make him ineligible to run for the presidency, Gibson was actually born in the United States – in Peekskill, N.Y. – in 1956. His father, who won a $21,000 jackpot on the television game show “Jeopardy!,” moved the family to Australia in the 1960s.
Gibson now lives in Southern California, and is currently enjoying strong sales of “The Passion of the Christ” DVD, which reportedly saw 4.1 million purchases on its first day available Tuesday.
While Hurt has not received word from Gibson himself about the effort, he’s heard through the grapevine the filmmaker is not interested in the White House.
“It’s not his sport,” said Hurt, adding one great quality about Gibson is his common sense. “I don’t know why anyone would want that job.”
