Former president Bill Clinton, 58, has been hospitalized in New York to undergo quadruple heart-bypass surgery, according to news reports.

Clinton is undergoing tests at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He was admitted after doctors found a blockage in his arteries.

Sources told Fox News there was no indication Clinton would suffer any damage from the frequently-performed procedure.

Known as an avid jogger and lover of junk food, Clinton went on “The South Beach Diet” in January and began a workout regime.

He was scheduled to accompany his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, on a two-day tour of upstate New York.

The senator and the couple’s daughter, Chelsea, joined Clinton in New York City today.

The former president checked into a local hospital yesterday after experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath but spent the night at home in Chappaqua, N.Y., his office said a statement.

“We talked through the day and he said he felt fine and not to worry,” said Sen. Clinton.

Her husband then was given an angiogram test, to detect blockages or narrowing of coronary arteries, which revealed “multivessel coronary artery disease, normal heart function and no heart attack,” said Dr. Anthony Pucillo, who performed the procedure.

The blockage was significant enough to warrant an operation, Pucillo said, according to the Associated Press.
