A pro-Israel group is sponsoring an online referendum on Palestinian statehood through the end of this month that it hopes will result in a resounding “no” vote.
The Global Israel Alliance is asking Internet users to vote yes or no on the question:
“Do you support the establishment of a PLO state in the land of Israel?”
The results of the group’s “Israel Referendum Campaign” will then be forwarded to President Bush and members of Congress in hopes of influencing American policy in the Middle East.
“Israel, as a biblically mandated Jewish state, is being compromised from within and without,” says GIA’s site. “Two plans that oppose G-d’s covenant for the Land of Israel are close to being implemented. If these plans are carried out, they will lead to the destruction of countless Jews, Christians and Arabs – not to mention untold devastation to two nations. Can we sit idly by and watch Israel and America be destroyed?”
The group urges a “no” vote, saying prevention of a Palestinian state would “deny fundamental Islam a victory over God’s promise to the Jewish people for their homeland, Israel.”
Giving in to the Palestinians, GIA says, would increase terrorism against both Israel and the U.S.:
“According to G-d’s covenant with Abraham for the House of Israel, Gaza is a possession of the tribe of Judah; the mountains of Samaria and Judea are the heart of the Land. Retreating from Gaza and Northern Samaria by removing thousands of Jewish settlers from their homes and running from terrorism is not in the best interest of America or Israel. The terrorist groups view this as weakness and vow to avenge such weakness by increasing terrorist acts toward Americans and Israelis!”
In its vision, the Global Israel Alliance says it is “building an alliance with all organizations, institutes, leaders and affiliations that are working towards the preservation of the biblically mandated Statehood of Israel as a Jewish Homeland and the restoration of Israel’s vision and purpose.”
