A case of road rage in Scotland now has authorities looking for the person who “killed” a highway speed camera.

Police believe angry motorist bent on revenge is responsible for dousing the traffic device in gasoline and setting it ablaze.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the camera was attacked in the early morning hours, as shocked motorists reporting flames leaping into the air on the A1 highway in East Lothian.

“We were called by a motorist telling us a camera had been set alight,” a police source told the paper. “When we attended, the fire brigade were called and the fire was put out. It was at around four in the morning and the road was empty.”

The source added: “This person has gone out with the intention to set the camera on fire. They may have been the victim of a speed camera before. The camera no longer works because of the attack.”

Speed cameras, which cost more than $50,000 each to install, have been attacked numerous times since their introduction in the United Kingdom 11 years ago.

A camera in Aberdeen was set on fire in June, and in March, a drunk-driver lassoed a device and ripped it out of the ground with a tow rope.

Fifty seven-year-old Stefano Barbieri, was reportedly three times over the alcohol limit when the camera flashed him. Ironically, police informed him later the monitor had no film.
