Only one campaign …

By Kevin McCullough

In this year’s race for the White House, there has been only one campaign that has achieved election-year milestones unlike any other.

Only one campaign has threatened to sue publishers over material that was written about their candidate and his controversial time spent in uniform. Only one campaign made threats to sue TV stations for airing the commercials of those who sought to broadcast critical messages of that campaign’s candidate. Only one campaign was able to get bookstores to pull negative manuscripts that disputed its candidate’s claims from their inventory.

Only one campaign has aided and coordinated its efforts with the major news operations. Only one campaign was in specific contact with producers from an increasingly unpopular evening news program. Only one campaign went as far as even allowing its highest ranking operatives to have quid pro quo conversations with persons who have held grudges against their opponent going back decades. Only one campaign went on national television to answer the charges and smugly reply, “I thought the guy had a lot of good things to say.”

Only one campaign has benefited from the corrupt use of fraudulent documents by a major news operation. Only one campaign released a slanderous charge of its opponent’s military background simultaneously with the “fraudulent documents” story. Only one campaign has issued statements of condemnation of its favorable 527 groups while sending its own attack dogs out the same day to repeat the same rumors. Only one campaign was given an unfair advantage by another news network when that network put the subliminal message “I Lie” next to their opponent’s name.

Only one campaign has embraced the worst beliefs about everything in America, everything about Americans, and everything America does in the world today. Only one campaign has consistently criticized our fighting men and women, and said to the world that their actions are a colossal error. Only one campaign has called for the impeachment of the defense secretary and other high ranking personnel in the midst of a global war. Only one campaign has supported their candidate’s decision to vote against giving our fighting men and women the armor and body protection they needed.

Only one campaign has said it believes in marriage, yet given every encouragement to the courts to radically change what marriage is. Only one campaign has taken the decisive action to oppose an amendment to protect the nature and character of what marriage is. Only one campaign has promised to extend the killing of unborn children into the indefinite future and promised to use the power of the federal judiciary to do so.

Only one campaign has promised to cut your taxes, while its candidates have voted against every tax cut in the last four years. Only one campaign has promised to deliver over $300 billion of new services, won’t explain how they will pay for them, and promised to roll back the tax cuts you have benefited from.

Only one campaign has called everyone America “insane” or “crazy” if they were to cast a vote for the opposition. Only one campaign has passed on discriminatory and bigoted stereotypes such as “Blacks are afraid of voting machines.”

Only one campaign questioned the patriotic military service of the other candidate and then refused to release his own service records. Only one campaign has questioned the ability of our troops to succeed in the war on terror. And only one campaign has denigrated the protectors of our land by labeling them “unable to be trusted” with their own weapons.

Only one campaign has promised that its candidate would put the scrutiny of America’s security under the passage of a “global test.” And only one campaign has promised to shut down future weapons programs that give us the edge in the War on Terror.

But heck … only one campaign has even said that the War on Terror is, in fact, not a war at all. Only one campaign has gone so far as to say that terror is only threat if poll numbers are bad for their opponent.

It was the supporters of only one campaign who took guns and shot holes or violently vandalized the offices of their opponents – now in six different states.

Only one campaign has done all of these things.

That campaign was “John Kerry for President” … and he did not approve of this message.
