I am aware that by stepping into the public arena to speak on behalf of pre-born babies, I open myself to criticism. I can take the heat. However, with his criticism of me and of the organization I represent in his recent WorldNetDaily offering ("Happy Conception Day?"), Les Kinsolving has gone over the edge. And he has done so with absolutely no intellectual honesty at all – none, nada, nothing! So I must respond.

As president of American Life League, I am an advocate for the pre-born child, and in that role there is not one innocent baby whose life I am willing to agree is expendable. For that unbending, always consistent position, Kinsolving charges me with "deadly extremism."

Kinsolving claims I would argue against killing an innocent baby because his mother was gang raped or sexually assaulted by a member of her family. Well, he is right. I am a logical thinker and would never dream of recommending the execution of an innocent third party because of the sins of another. Would he? Apparently, if that innocent person happens to be a pre-born baby conceived as the result of rape or incest, he would.
But one has to wonder what justice there can be in Kinsolving's world – a world where innocent pre-born babies die solely because their fathers sexually assaulted their mothers.

He says I suffer from "fetal fanaticism," and once again, he's right. I have studied Biology 101 and know, from the scientific proofs that are available to anyone with the will to read, that a human being's life begins at the beginning – conception and fertilization are a couple of the words used to describe that point in time. Kinsolving was once a single-cell human zygote, then a human embryo, then a human fetus, then a newborn human infant, et cetera. Well, so was I, and so was every person reading these words. So why wouldn't I want to see every human being protected from death by abortion?
Kinsolving says my view represents "utter barbarism." But if you examine the positions quite honestly, there is a contrast in views here that provokes one to wonder who is the real barbarian.

On the one hand, I will work to my dying breath in defense of every single innocent person whose life hangs in the balance, not only before birth but at any point in his or her life. On the other hand, Kinsolving would discriminate against an entire segment of society because they reside in the womb. In certain circumstances, he would prefer to see them butchered, or sucked out of their mothers, or chemically assaulted until they die. Now, tell me, who is the barbarian?
Kinsolving splits hairs over the conviction of Scott Peterson by pointing out that while Peterson was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, he was convicted of mere second-degree murder in the death of his pre-born son. But wait a minute, Lester! According to criminal lawyers, there is no practical difference between first and second-degree murder charges except when it comes to sentencing. So what's your point?

Peterson was found guilty of the murders of two different people!
And finally, the ultimate absurdity. Kinsolving reaches far beyond the limits of logic, common sense and reality by alleging that American Life League might one day demand death certificates for every miscarried baby. Miscarriage is a dreadful event caused by nature; it is sad, but it occurs. Even sadder is the fact that even many in the medical profession, who are charged with caring for the mother and her pre-born child, have bouts of insensitivity when dealing with the couple who have miscarried their baby. Death certificate? No, not necessary. But at least a modicum of compassion would be nice.

On the other hand, abortion is a cruel result of man's desire to intentionally eliminate a baby. The reasons for such a callous attitude are more numerous than the words on this page, but the result is always the same – one dead child whose death was anything but natural.
Les, thanks for the opportunity to set the record straight. Perhaps next time you will pick on someone more deserving of your venom – or spineless enough to take it lying down.
