In his meeting with President Bush yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told the American leader that Iran is only one technological step away from enriching uranium, which could then lead to achieving nuclear capability.

The meeting, according to Israeli press reports, also included Sharon military aide Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant showing Bush aerial images of Iranian nuclear facilities that reportedly showed the nuke program at a "very advanced" stage. Galant is to have also shared Israeli intelligence about Iran with the president.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Sharon will bring up the Iranian nuclear threat during his meeting today with Vice President Dick Cheney.

During their meeting at the president's ranch in Texas, Sharon urged Bush to exert pressure on the European nations in talks with Tehran to hold the ruling mullahs accountable. A new round of talks between the EU three – France, Britain and Germany – and Iran resumes later this month.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the two leaders had "talked about their shared concern about Iran's intentions with their nuclear program."
Israeli defense officials reportedly tried to get assurances from the U.S. about a possible military attacks against Iran if diplomacy fails.

"We are not managing to get the Americans to talk about what will happen if the diplomatic efforts fail and Iran resumes enriching uranium, putting it on track to an atomic bomb," a senior Israeli defense official was quoted by Aljazeera.com as saying.
Today's developments have analysts discussing the possibility of Israel taking military action against Iran.

Jerome Corsi is author of "Atomic Iran: How the Terrorist Regime Bought the Bomb and American Politicians."
"Israel will watch for the moment of no return, the time when Iran has everything necessary on its own to make a deliverable nuclear weapon," Corsi told WND. "Just after Israeli intelligence is convinced that Iran has reached that point, Israel will feel compelled to strike.
"Israel might well calculate that Iran armed with nuclear weapons would be too unpredictable and dangerous to tolerate. Since Iran's irrationality cannot be ruled out, Israel could calculate there is no rational option except to attack Iran first."
In June 2004, The Muslim News and the Sunday Times reported that Israel had already rehearsed a military first strike on Iran.
