“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
– Ephesians 6:12
- A federal judge backs a challenge of the Pledge of Allegiance as a violation of the First Amendment because of the words “under God.”
- The International Red Cross is on the verge of abandoning its 100-plus-year-old logo in favor of a red crystal or diamond.
- A 10-year-old student is told by Tennessee school officials he can’t read and study the Bible during recess.
It’s a virtual war against God.
It’s being waged in faraway places like Vietnam, where the government is burning down the homes of Christians who refuse to renounce their faith – even those who attend government-approved churches.
It’s being waged closer to home where believers are portrayed as intolerant because they acknowledge immutable truths and accept that some things are right and others are wrong.
And, for believers, we recognize it is even being waged in places we can’t see, hear and touch – in the invisible realm of the spirit world.
But here in the visible world of nations and principalities, the war against God is reaching a fever pitch.
Of course the world has always been at war with God. Man has always been defined by rebellion. But if you stand back and see the big picture, you can see we’re turning a corner. The battle is growing intense. Something’s got to give.
Do you sense it? Do you feel it? Can you see it?
There’s nothing rational about it. It’s a visceral hatred and rebellion by people who can’t live within the parameters of their Creator.
So they deny He exists.
How can one seriously deny God exists?
Let’s say you come across a beautiful, gold watch. Do you consider that this timepiece possibly was the result of a series of random circumstances and came together over billions of years by chance?
No. No one in their right mind would consider that a possibility.
If you walk through the woods come across a building, do you consider the possibility that it came together naturally with no intervention by any creator?
No. None in their right mind would consider that possibility.
Yet there are people – lots of them – who look at our world and see no Creator.
There are people – lots of them – who look at man and see no Creator.
There are people – lots of them – who look at the Bible, the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and conclude that it is the work of man.
People see what they want to see, and don’t see what they don’t want to see.
Why is it that we recognize buildings had builders and watches had watchmakers, but we don’t all recognize that much more sophisticated creations had a Creator?
Because some people – many people – don’t want to face the truth. They don’t want to recognize they are accountable to someone other than themselves. They don’t want to recognize they are in denial. They don’t want to recognize they are lawbreakers. They don’t want to recognize they are in a state of sin that will damn them for eternity.
This is the world in which we live.
And I don’t believe it is going to continue like this for much longer. I don’t believe the Creator is going to continue to be mocked. I don’t believe that lawlessness and profanity can continue unchallenged for long.
Big changes are coming.
The signs are everywhere.
Kingdoms will fall.
Nations will rise against nations.
Even the Earth itself will convulse and quiver.
It’s time for each of us to listen to what still, small voice is trying to tell us. Because when that voice becomes a shout, it may be too late.
