On Tuesday, Jan. 24, 18 senators were given 10 minutes each to share their final thoughts on Judge Alito before voting. Those 180 minutes were akin to a long, tortuous visit to the dentist. No offense to my dental readers, I assure you I am not an "anti-dentite.".

After the usual suspects like Leahy and Kennedy used their 10 minutes to attack the president, they offered no significant reasons for their "no" vote. Then Biden, Kohl and Feinstein jumped in to let us know Judge Alito will send women to the alley for their medical procedures and reinstate slavery and discrimination that would make "Jim Crow" blush. Does any sane person believe Judge Alito has either the desire or ability to accomplish what the Dems fear?

The absurdity of the Democrat statements on Alito will only be matched if the public at large accepts this nonsense. Do they really believe one man, with one vote, on a nine-member court can reverse the entire course of a nation? This is the height of ridiculous.

No one, including the American Bar Association can challenge Alito's qualifications. His peers, of all races, hold him in high esteem. The ABA gives him its highest rating.
So why the clearly partisan 10-8 vote out of the committee? Simple! Politics.

A day is coming very soon where Americans are going to say enough is enough. They have had it with the speeches and the posturing. We need statesmen with principles, not politicians with agendas.
A Supreme Court judge should be confirmed or rejected on his or her qualifications not on whether the candidate will rule according to certain people's personal preferences. They need to be strict interpreters of the law not legislators. They need to assure all Americans that the separation of powers is just that, separate but equal.

Democrats want the Supreme Court to legislate what they cannot win at the ballot box, yet that is not the role of the court.
Kennedy, Biden, Feinstein and Leahy are unable to fathom a court that will not reverse the will of the people when they deem the people wrong. I have advice for them all: Get on the right side of the issues and you will win at the ballot box. Then the court can go back to the purpose the founders intended – to interpret the law, not create it.
