Let’s see.
We’re fighting a war on terrorism at home and abroad.
Our border is still wide open because we could never have enough agents to patrol it, according to the conventional wisdom in Washington.
There are between 12 million and 20 million mystery people in the United States who have sneaked in without providing any identification or documentation.
We don’t have enough federal agents to begin deporting those people when they are found.
But we do have more than enough federal agents to investigate the “counterfeiting” of $1 million bills.
What? You say that’s preposterous? You say $1 million bills could never be counterfeited because they don’t exist? Well, you’re right, of course. But that’s why what the Treasury Department of the United States is doing right now – confiscating Gospel tracts printed on the back of obviously phony $1 million bills and threatening more legal action against those printing and distributing them. It’s so absurd, scary, nonsensical, in short, so like clueless Big Government bureaucracies.
In case you missed the story, first broken by WND, not one, not two, but three Secret Service agents – presumably armed – visited the Great News Network offices in Denton, Texas, almost two weeks ago and threatened a staffer with arrest if he did not immediately hand over 8,300 of the tracts.
The provocation for the seizure?
Apparently, rumor has it, according to the Secret Service agents, someone in North Carolina tried to deposit one of the “bills” in a bank. On the basis of that act of stupidity, I guess we can assume that if someone tries to deposit a $500 Monopoly money bill in a bank, Parker Brothers will be getting some visits by the Secret Service as well.
(As a side note, it’s the Secret Service’s job, by the way, to preserve the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on the counterfeiting of U.S. currency. Maybe you’ve never heard it explained that way before. But that’s the job of the Secret Service – besides protecting the lives of the president and other key officials. Only the Federal Reserve, a private corporation of banking interests, is permitted to authorize the printing of fiat currency by the Federal Mint. There was a day when your currency represented real money. Not any more. In fact, that $20 you’ve got in your pocket isn’t worth much more than the $1 million tract the Secret Service is so worried about.)
Now, maybe you’re chalking this dustup to a misunderstanding by three rookie agents of the Secret Service. One thing has become clear since this incident was first reported – the agency, still under the direction of outgoing Treasury Secretary John Snow, is standing behind the action of those agents, insisting that the printing and distribution of Gospel tracts in the form of obviously bogus $1 million bills is illegal.
So far, the highest Secret Service official to speak out on this controversy is Mark Lowery, special agent in charge of the Dallas district.
“We have no plans to round up people who have these, but they need to know it is a violation of federal law,” Lowery said.
“We have no plans to round up people who have these.” Mmmmmmmhh. That’s a comforting statement. But notice he’s sticking to his guns that the mere possession of these tracts is a “violation of federal law.” He also refused to rule out the arrest of those who continue to distribute the tracts.
I’m speechless.
I’m out of breath.
What country is this?
What planet am I living on?
Did I get off the bus in some parallel universe called Bizarro World?
Who do you call when the authorities have gone certifiably insane?
Once again, compare and contrast this controversy with the way the federal government handles a real crisis – one where there is a real and meaningful and non-debatable breach of federal law, the invasion of this country by millions of illegal aliens.
Once again, compare and contrast this controversy with the way the federal government handles a real crisis – the dissemination of terror-supporting “tracts” by Islamic radical mosques within this country.
Which of these situations threaten you more?
