TEL AVIV – An armed Palestinian man infiltrated the British embassy in Tel Aviv today and reportedly is demanding political asylum.

The gunman, who in the past reportedly has provided Israeli intelligence with anti-terror information, has asked for an airplane to fly him to Europe.
Nadim Injaz, a 28-year-old Palestinian from Ramallah, jumped the security fence of the embassy and entered an exterior compound section of the building with a pistol pointed to his own head.

Israeli police have surrounded the embassy compound and have been invited inside to deal with the situation. Israeli security forces must be invited into the compound, because the embassy is considered British territory.
Special police units have been deployed around the embassy and are in contact with Injaz, who asked that an airplane be prepared to fly him to Europe from Dov Airfield, a small airport located about a half mile from the embassy. He said if his demands are not met he will commit suicide.

Security sources tell WorldNetDaily Injaz has worked with the Israeli Defense Forces in providing information for anti-terror operations in Ramallah.
Tel Aviv police chief Maj. Gen. David Tzur said Injaz is "a man that we know. He owns a gun and is threatening to commit suicide. He was a collaborator, but he was disappointed and now he wants to leave the country."
Press reports were questioning how the man managed to get past the embassy's security. The compound is surrounded by a security fence. There is a secured parking area at the front of the building.
A local resident who maintains an apartment neighboring the embassy told WND security outside the British embassy is lax.
"Unlike the American embassy here, which is a fortress, there is just one guard who protects the outside of the British embassy," explained the resident.

"The guard is stationed at a small post and controls the fence and parking lot to the building," the resident said. "I regularly see the guard leave his post to purchase things at a neighboring store, or at times to even talk to local girls. I have been astounded by the lax security at the embassy."
