Like it or not, the United States got its Christmas present from Washington's political elites.
What was it?

Betrayal, packaged in the report by the Iraq Study Group.
They should have wrapped it black paper and tied it with a noose.

Instead it was presented to the president, Congress, the media, the public and indeed, the world, in written form that tried to put a good face on a betrayal of our military and the other nations who fought with us in Iraq. But it's also a betrayal of our country and what it stands for, to say nothing of being a blatant slap in the face – and yes, betrayal – of Israel.
Talk about a double whammy.

On the other hand, the report is a gift to Islamo terrorists worldwide as well as the anti-American, anti-Western and anti-Christian Middle Eastern countries who see it as a road map to their fondest dreams: defeat of ''The Great Satan'' (read that the United States) and the annihilation of Israel.
It boggles the mind and is more than frustrating to know that the people who make policy for this country and have the legal ability to carry it out, have taken leave of their minds.
Whether it be partisan politics or power, one-world-ism or the goals of Big Business, the destructive ramifications of ''peace at any price'' or the concepts of conciliation, consensus, and coalition (or perhaps the simplistic bleating of Rodney King's ''Can't we just get along?''), the entire ISG report is nonsense and extremely dangerous.
It's easy enough to pick apart the proposals, but the heart of this betrayal of the free world lies in the fact that there's no recognition that evil exists, that there's a worldwide movement encompassed in a religion and supported by totalitarian police states with one aim: the destruction of the free world.
It's too late to debate whether the Iraq War should have occurred. It did, we're there, and it's clear that if we pull out all hell will break loose with more carnage than today.

The report doesn't speak of winning (whatever happened to that concept?) and it doesn't talk of losing. It does talk of Iraq handling its own defense and of our troops being withdrawn with only support military remaining. That they would be sitting ducks for terrorists seems of no concern.
Worse, the report recommends inviting Iran and Syria to help mediate the Iraq problem. Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi said she thought it was a good idea and suggested regular committee meetings to handle the Mideast disputes.
Yes, the same Iran which daily declares its intention to wipe Israel and the United States off the face of the globe and is developing nuclear weapons to accomplish that. Yes, the same Iran which supplies arms to the insurgents in Iraq. Yes, the same Syria which funnels terrorists, arms and support to the anti-American forces in the region.
Have our politicians lost their minds?

Mainstream media focus on the report's recommendations, but blindly ignore the connections of Group Chairman James Baker, who not only has a history of being staunchly anti-Israel but who has continued for years to have close relations, business and otherwise, with Saudi Arabia. That this might influence his positions is ignored.
Baker has, and still does, take the position that the woes of the Middle East are Israel's fault. His solution: punishing Israel and forcing it to give up territory to benefit Palestinians.
If you just fell off a turnip truck and read the Study Group Report, you'd swear Israel is the enemy and that terrorism, totalitarianism, racism, and Islamo-fascism don't exist.
There is no turnip truck but there is increasing terrorism across the world under the banner of Islam. It's meaningless to say Muslims are peaceful or that there's no violence in the Quran.

It reminds me of the old gag: who are your going to believe? Me, or your eyes?
Smart people believe their eyes.
They see the perpetrators of terror attacks across the world are Muslims. They see Saudi Arabia is the source of millions of dollars to spread fundamentalist Islam across the world.
They see Western countries have growing Muslim populations, growing divisions between Muslims and native populations, growing militancy of Muslims in those countries, increasing demands for Sharia law (justice according to the Quran) to replace Western judicial procedures, increasing demands that the native culture change to accommodate Islam, and increasing discoveries of terrorist cells within those countries with the stated goals of bringing down those governments.

So, if smart people see all that, what do we call politicians and media who ignore it? Stupid, stubborn or traitorous?
If they willingly compromise our safety and our country's future for whatever utopian goal, it's treason.
As Harry Truman – a tough, Democrat president – said, ''The buck stops here.'' He was right. Ultimately, the man in the Oval Office is responsible. It goes with the job.
President Bush continues to try to be all things to all people. I've said it before: I believe his faith blinds him to the reality of the dangers we face. If I'm wrong about that, and he's doing it on purpose, then the ''T-word'' needs to be considered, for him and all the politicians and bureaucrats who give aid and comfort to the enemy.
When we have ''leaders'' who refuse to clearly identify our enemies, who continue to mollify Muslims who claim to be ''moderate'' but don't condemn the violent Islamists, who allow and encourage Islam to encroach and change western culture and laws – when we have leaders who actually consider the possibility of sitting as equals at the table with such countries as Syria and Iran knowing full well they've vowed our destruction – when we have that, we have traitors at the helm.

People compare Iraq with World War II in terms of duration. Wrong! We should look at how we fought. In the 1940s, we fought to win. Not to compromise. Not to appease.
We fought to destroy the enemy knowing full well that if they weren't brought to their knees, the war would never end.
We fought to win and did, and demanded unconditional surrender.
But we don't have the guts for that today. We're too busy worrying about world opinion. We falsely believe that everyone in the world is the same and if they just have a taste of freedom, they'll turn into a democratic country.

It doesn't work that way. Just look at the African countries after the British left. They devolved into cesspools of starvation and privation for everyone but their top politicos who now show up at the U.N. in their custom suits and who, because of protocol, we treat with respect – as though they're our equals.
They're not. Nor are Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Syria's leader Bashar Assad. They want us dead.
Just two days ago, the Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh vowed Hamas will never recognize Israel, called the United States arrogant and declared Hamas will never renounce violence.
The plan that James Baker and his group presents would bring the U.S. to its knees and crush Israel.

It's stupid, foolish and dangerous for us, but the terrorists love it! They consider it our death warrant and they'll be only too pleased to comply.
Does anyone know who's on our side?
