Imagine New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner telling all of his team's fans and season ticket holders that he is canceling the Yankee's season because the most recognized, the most storied and the winningest franchise in baseball history ($200 million annual payroll notwithstanding) can't win another game. Suppose he uses as proof of same the fact that even though his team had out-spent all other teams, they didn't win the championship last season – and the fact that they are just barely above .500 this season justifies pulling the plug on the entire season.

It goes without saying the Yankees' rivals would be pleased, but not Yankee fans, not Major League Baseball, and certainly not the players. That, in effect, is exactly what the Gollumesque Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., proposed when he proclaimed the "war is lost," continuing his demands that America tuck her tail between her legs and run home. The difference being that Gollum's attempted treachery was a fantasy, while Reid's is very real.

I understand that this mentality plays well to those who champion Reid's moral opprobriousness – but it doesn't play well to real Americans. While it would have a demoralizing effect on a less honorable military, our brave men and women continue to place themselves in harm's way, many paying the ultimate sacrifice, so Reid can dishonor them as he reaps the riches of his taxpayer-funded multi-million dollar lifestyle. While our military is not demoralized, it goes without saying that neither is the enemy. Reid's comment not only energizes them, but it encourages them to shed more innocent American blood – blood that is on the hands of Reid and all who espouse his reprehensible heterodoxy.

Reid and his ilk are a disgrace to America. If it weren't for our value of freedom of speech, he should rightly be tried for treason. Even so, if Don Imus can be fired for "three silly words," uttered in the context of what he does (or did, as it were), Reid should be driven from office in disgrace.
He took an oath that reads: "I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."
So we ask: What part of the Constitution encourages elected representatives to malign our military? What part of the Constitution encourages elected representatives to embolden and give aide to the enemy? Reid is not only undermining the men and women serving in harm's way, he is, by his actions, the enemy's best weapon against our military.

When he says: "I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week" – does he not understand the enemy is listening closely to his words? Does he not understand that his words serve to encourage the enemy to commit more atrocities and to dig in and fight harder? If the answer to either of those questions is no, then it is he, not Justice Thomas, as he proclaimed in the past, who is a dumb person.
Or is it possible that Reid fully understands his actions are undermining the surge and does so intentionally? Is it possible he will gladly incite the spilling of American blood on foreign soil to further his nefarious agenda of fighting against the Bush White House? How much money pours into his personal coffers based on his veiled hate-America screeds? And how much of it actually comes from various anti-American interests that are taking advantage of the freedoms we have here?

He "believes the war at this stage can only be won diplomatically, politically and economically." Exactly what economic sanctions does he propose to use against one of the world's leading oil producers? Does he propose using the same diplomacy Clinton used in North Korea or that Carter used against Iran? Islamic terrorists have carried out more than 8,089 deadly terror attacks since 9-11. Exactly how does he purpose to politically deal with this wonderful religion of peace?
In his book, "Why I Left Jihad," ex-Muslim terrorist/jihadist Walid Shoebat writes, "With Islamism, only those who adhere to militant, radical fundamentalism are safe; the rest of the world are infidels who must be converted or destroyed." Does Reid plan on converting, or does he think he will be spared because he helped sell out his country?

Shoebat continues, "The terrorists are right here [in the United States]. … at campus events, they will speak of peace in English and talk about infiltration in Arabic." He adds, "Today, in response to what has become a mantra since Sept. 11 – that 'true Islam is a religion of peace,' I say no. I grew up there. I was there at the mosques, the Friday madrassa, listening to sermons by Ikrima Sabri, tapes by Abdul Hamid Kishk. They taught only the destruction of Jews and hatred of the West. To kill, to maim, to hate, these were all the same as getting an 'A' on your report card. …
"Since Muslims do not [yet] have the upper hand in America or Europe, they talk about peace in front of you while supporting Hamas and Hezbollah in the backroom. The whole idea of Islam being a peaceful religion emanates from that silent stage of jihad."
They depend on useful idiots like Reid to further their ends.
It is time for true Americans to realize Reid and his ilk are no more our friends than are the terrorists they embrace. It is time for true Americans to remove Reid from office. It is one thing to be a pacifist – it is another to be a traitor to our way of life.
