Following her trip to Greenland, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reported seeing actual "firsthand evidence that climate change is a reality."
In other words, she saw something she could not possibly see.
Global climate change, by definition, cannot be measured in one place at one time. It cannot be observed by one politician visiting one location at one point in time.
Nevertheless, she claims to have seen it.
She even said she could see who was responsible.
"It wasn't caused by the people of Greenland – it was caused by the behavior of the rest of the world," she said.
What did she actually see?
She probably saw some ice and snow melting on a warm day and decided this represents manmade, catastrophic, global climate change induced by an abundance of CO2 in the atmosphere.
There are more problems with this thesis than can adequately be dealt with in one column or a thousand columns. But suffice it to say only 4 percent of the CO2 in the atmosphere has anything to do with man, industry or other human activities on the planet. The other 96 percent is completely natural.
By far, the biggest factor in the temperature of the Earth is the activities of the sun, not man. There is a direct correlation between storms and sunspot activity on the sun and increased temperature on Earth. Both have been measured and correlated for hundreds of years.
There is also a direct correlation between rising temperatures on Earth and increased CO2 production.
This is where the manmade, catastrophic, global climate change doomsayers get it wrong. CO2 doesn't cause rising temperatures. Rising temperatures cause increased CO2.
Honest researchers who are not just chasing grants noticed this phenomenon a long time ago and have published their findings on it. Men like Dr. Willie Soon, an astrophysicist and geoscientist, cannot be heard above the din of the alarmists with a political agenda.
"CO2 is controlled by temperature and other climate variables, not the other way around," he says.
Soon used scientific methods to come to this conclusion. Western hemlock trees, not ice packs, are better measures of atmospheric CO2. They show large variations in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere – up and down – over the last 2,000 years.
On the basis of his scientific observations, he concludes it's wrong to say CO2 causes warming.
"It's as ridiculous as suggesting lung cancer causes cigarette smoking," he says.
I don't expect to persuade Nancy Pelosi. She, Al Gore and the other alarmists have too much invested in the CO2 scare. They seek to use it for their own devious and insidious political purposes – gaining more government control over people.
But, I do hope ordinary people will be able to see through the veil of lies being pulled over their eyes when the Pelosis of the world suggest they have actually observed global warming.
It's remarkable to me that Pelosi can see threats that are not real and not see threats that are as obvious as the command-and-control political agenda that motivates her.
She sees global warming.
She does not see a dire threat to the national security of the United States posed by Islamo-fascists currently operating in Iraq.
She sees what cannot be seen.
She does not see the twin towers toppling down.
She sees polar bears on ice floes.
She does not see the Pentagon attacked.
She sees the invisible gas CO2.
She does not see the burning fiery furnace called the sun.
She sees manmade activity destroying the planet.
She does not see men with hate in their hearts determined to destroy freedom.
Nancy Pelosi and I must be living in a parallel universe. There is simply no other explanation for the different views we have.
