I'm already hearing many Republican partisans explaining why people like me and James Dobson are wrong about not voting for a Rudy Giuliani or some other weak GOP nominee – someone with little in common with Ronald Reagan.

They are already playing what I call their "Supreme Court card."
TRENDING: Report: Capitol cop who shot Babbitt is in hiding
It goes something like this: "You have to vote for a Republican because Hillary Clinton will give us Supreme Court appointments like Ruth Bader Ginsburg or worse."

I have to admit, it's a scary scenario.
But let's look at some facts.
As bad as Ginsburg is – and she's horrible – the worst justice is arguably John Paul Stevens, the senior member of the Bolshevik wing of the court.

Who appointed him?
President Gerald R. Ford, Republican.

Another rotten member of the pervert wing of the court is David Souter.
Who appointed him?

President George H.W. Bush, Republican.
Another terrible member of the court, albeit one who vacillates between the American Civil Liberties Union faction and those who have actually read the Constitution, is Anthony Kennedy.

Who appointed him?
Ronald Reagan himself! (You might also remember Reagan nominated Sandra Day O'Connor, one of the most inept and political hacks who ever donned black robes.)

So, history would suggest Republican presidents, even the best of them, have a poor track record of appointing quality Supreme Court justices.
I wish it were not so, but I have to face reality. The facts are clear.

While Hillary Clinton is unlikely to make mistakes with her picks, with Republican presidents, it appears to be, at best, a crapshoot.
Remember, George W. Bush first picked his own lawyer, Harriet Miers, before yielding to demands for a choice with a little more gravitas.

Am I to think Giuliani will do better than Reagan? Giuliani's most famous recommendation for a senior federal post was Bernard Kerik to head the Department of Homeland Security. Last I heard, Kerik was facing an indictment.
Am I to believe Fred Thompson will do as well as Reagan? In the most important vote he ever cast in the U.S. Senate, he acquitted William Jefferson Clinton of high crimes and misdemeanors in the impeachment trial.
Am I to believe Mitt Romney will appoint courageous justices who understand, revere and honor the Constitution? As governor of Massachusetts, he decided he personally had to conduct same-sex marriages because the state Supreme Judicial Court illegally ordered the Legislature to rewrite 200-year-old laws.
I don't think so.
I'm not that gullible.
These guys are weak-kneed and have demonstrated they are incapable of distinguishing right from wrong.
If Republican presidents had a good track record of appointing Supreme Court justices, there would currently be a 7-2 majority where there are now only four reliable votes.
No, I don't want to see the kind of justices Hillary will appoint. But it will bother me even more if we get more Souters, Kennedys, O'Connors and Stevenses thanks to a Republican president.
If I had to make a decision today, I would tell you there are only two Republicans running who could be counted on to make excellent Supreme Court nominations. They are Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter.
I would urge you to work very hard to get one of these two men the nomination. I would urge you to work very hard to get one of them elected president.
If we don't, quite honestly, the court is, most likely, a lost cause anyway.
