As long as there have been accusations of a liberal war against Christmas, there have been denials.
Despite years of documented proof such as the government prohibition of public Nativity scenes and other Christian displays, traditional salutations such as "Merry Christmas" changed to "Season's Greetings," Christmas break changed to "winter break" and ad nauseam attacks on Santa, liberals still deny they are at war with Jesus.
Well there are now at least nine members of Congress whose denials ring hollow because this time they actually voted against Christ.
The House of Representatives passed H.R. 847 which simply recognized the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith to America and the world Dec. 11, 2007. So what's the problem?
The resolution passed on a vote of 372-9, with 10 voting "present" and 40 abstentions. That means nine congressional representatives flat-out refused to acknowledge the importance Christianity has played in shaping this nation. All nine votes against the resolution were cast by staunch anti-war Democrats or members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
The nays:
Nine out of the 10 "present" votes, which politicians use when they don't have the spine to take a position, were cast by Democrats. Nineteen of the 40 abstentions were also Democrats. This means that roughly 10 percent of the entire House of Representatives could care less about the birth of Jesus.
This all may seem a bit trivial, but it's only when you step back and look at the big picture that you begin to see the depravity of these people. I researched nearly all 1,200 roll call votes, and what I found should have Americans asking tough questions of these so-called "representatives."
Let's take a look at some of their other votes.
Roll Call 1880: H.R. 3320 – Providing support for the Museum of the
History of Polish Jews. This bill actually spends money to support the museum. Passed 407-13 with 12 abstentions. All nine Democrats who gave Jesus a "nay" voted for it.
Roll Call 1015: H.J.R. 58 – Recognizing Country Music Month. Passed 398-0 with 34 abstentions. Again, all nine Democrats voted "yea."
Roll Call 1012: H.R. 747 – Recognizing the religious and historical significance of the Indian festival of Diwali. Passed 358-0 with eight "present" and 66 abstentions. Eight of the nine Democrats voted for it. Hastings, who abstained, was the only one of the nine that didn't cast a "yea" vote.
Roll Call 971: H.C.R. 182 – Supporting the goals and ideals of National Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Week. Passed 414-0 with 17 abstentions. All nine
Democrats except Woolsey, who abstained, cast a "yea" vote.
Roll Call 928: H.R. 635 – Recognizing the Commencement of Ramadan. Passed 376-0 with 42 present and 14 abstentions. Barbara Lee, who abstained, was the only
one of the nine Democrats to not vote "yea" (An interesting side note here is that 41 of the "present" votes were Republicans).
Roll Call 501: H.R. 233 – Recognizing the 200 years of sovereignty of Leichtenstein. Passed 389-0 with 43 abstentions. All nine Democrats were present and voted "yea."
Roll Call 93: H.R. 134 – Honoring employees of the Department of Homeland Security. Passed 412-0 with 22 abstentions. All nine Democrats, again, cast "yea" votes.
Roll Call 79: H.R. 120 - Recognizing the African-American Spiritual as a
National Treasure. Passed 426-0 with nine abstentions. All nine Democrats voted "yea."
Roll Call 61: H.R. 90 – Congratulating coaches Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy for making it to the Super Bowl. Passed 425-0 with 10 abstentions. McDermott was the only one of the nine to not vote.
So what I would like to know is why these nine members of Congress acknowledged the importance of every conceivable cultural celebration in America from sports to Ramadan to country music, but couldn't show the same amount of respect for Jesus Christ. If you read the resolutions for Christmas, Ramadan and
Diwali, they are essentially worded the same. So, once again, what's the problem? Hatred of Jesus Christ and everything Christian, that's what.
This was a direct slap in the face of Christians in America and around the world. It's time we stop turning the other cheek and demand answers from those who show disdain for our culture and religious beliefs.
