The words in the headline are not my own. They were proclaimed by Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at a Black History Month event in Washington, D.C., this week. At the event, she noted her intent of rebuffing the modern-day claim that her uncle was an abortion-rights supporter.
In her speech, she observed that, while her uncle did receive an award from Planned Parenthood in 1966, the group then bore what she termed a “hidden agenda.”
In fact, the dirty secret of Planned Parenthood is this: Its founder, a one-time nurse named Margaret Sanger, believed that America needed “to cut down on the rapid multiplication of the unfit and undesirable at home” through methods of eugenics. Merriam-Webster defines eugenics this way: “a science that deals with the improvement (as by control of human mating) of hereditary qualities of a race or breed.”
Much evidence points to Sanger being a racist. To stop the “multiplication” of those she saw as unfit, Sanger sought to halt “medical and nursing facilities to slum mothers,” as she wrote in her book, “The Pivot of Civilization.” (Of course, we cannot depend on our so-called mainstream media to report on Sanger’s shameful writings.)
And so we return to the headline in this column. It is a stark observation by a woman who has experienced the cruelty of abortion and understands the terrible racist history of the industry’s leading organization (which has made untold millions of dollars through its abortion services).
Dr. King said during this week’s event, “I don’t want anybody to be confused by thinking that Dr. [Martin Luther] King could condone the violent death of the little babies and the violent consequences that women suffer. I’m post-abortive myself. I’ve suffered … and it was a secret in my family for too long. And so now we’re here today to speak out on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. Abortion is a racist, genocidal act.”
What a powerful and arresting statement that is.
OneNewsNow.com reported that Dr. King was one of several black pro-life leaders at the Washington event, which was designed to celebrate their ethnicity and condemn abortion and its disproportionate effect on blacks.
I greatly appreciate her efforts to educate people on abortion.
Here in Lynchburg, Va., we have been participating in pro-life ministry for many years. At our Liberty Godparent Home, we believe that each child – regardless of race, background or circumstances surrounding conception – is a miracle created by God and has a unique purpose and destiny.
My father understood that it would be a frightening and daunting experience for a young, unmarried girl to discover that she is pregnant. That is why he started this ministry, which provides complimentary housing and health and education services to young girls who want to offer life to the innocent babies they carry within them.
Further, our Family Life Services Adoption Agency helps these young girls find Christian parents who want to welcome their babies into their homes (although some girls choose to keep their babies).
Most people remember my father as a big, burly man. But I saw him on a few occasions reduced to tears as he handed a little baby to a young couple that had been unable to conceive. Next to seeing a soul come to Christ, I think his greatest joy in ministry was to participate in the ceremonies in which a couple welcomed a baby into their lives.
Abortion is the cruelest of actions. We must all do more to protect innocent life.
I salute Dr. Alveda King and join with her in calling our nation to understanding the terrible roots of abortion and the ongoing holocaust that is a disgrace to our nation.
