New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin strapped on a gynecological miners helmet and helped shine a light on something called V-Day recently.
Here’s a basic description of the goal of the V-Day organization from its website:
“Founded by playwright Eve Ensler in 1998 at the first benefit of her award winning play ‘The Vagina Monologues,’ the global nonprofit has raised over $50 million for local anti-violence groups with benefit events taking place in over 120 countries to date.”
V-Day will celebrate its 10th anniversary in New Orleans next month, and Nagin welcomed it with open, uh, arms, by saying that he is “a vagina-friendly mayor.” As if this is a rarity among males – especially politicians.
Appearing at the two-day event in New Orleans next month will be Oprah Winfrey, Marisa Tomei, Jane Fonda, Glenn Close, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Hudson, Salma Hayek, Sally Field, Christina Lahti and others.
Yes, this is the same Sally Field who said at the Emmy awards, “If mothers ruled the world, there wouldn’t be any g-d-damn wars.” Sally needs to research how much historical violence has been ignited by blasphemy before she loses any more peacenik street cred.
Keeping in mind that the goal of V-Day is to end violence against women around the world, there are statistics on the website about crimes committed against women in categories such as the following:
Rape
Incest
Battery
Female genital mutilation
Sex slavery/trafficking
Abortion
I actually added that last one. Did abortion seem out of place, given the list of celebrities and other notables who are involved with V-Day – many of them pro-abortion liberals who throw their time and money at pro-abortion politicians?
According to the World Health Organization, there were approximately 46 million abortions in the world in 2005, with only approximately 60 percent being carried out under “safe” conditions (0 percent were “safe” for the child, however).
Assuming a 1-1 ratio of aborted females and males (although many countries such as China abort females at far higher rates than males due to one-child laws), that’s 23 million murdered females per year. If reasons of humanity aren’t enough, perhaps V-Day supporters would be moved to know that could amount to 23 million fewer donors to V-Day, purchasers of movie theater tickets, music CD’s and potential viewers of Oprah. What a hideously inhumane self-imposed bear market.
In words that Eve Ensler and the celebrities and politicians ringing in the 10th anniversary may understand, there are 23 million vaginas each year that are deprived of a monolog – not to mention being befriended by Ray Nagin.
At least 23 million females per year are murdered. Not raped, not beaten, not enslaved, not genitally mutilated – but killed – all while many of those who lead this particular cause to “save women’s lives” remain politically active and very vocal in their support for the “right” that slaughters millions upon millions of females each year.
In spite of all the information about violence against women around the world that is featured on the V-Day website, a site search for “abortion” returns the same number of matches as searching for “diet plan” on Michael Moore’s website.
The fact that the greatest act of violence against females every year goes seemingly unnoticed by a group with the stated goal of ending violence against females is hardly surprising given the incredible mixed messages we witness day in and day out. I’m not just talking about people, like Jane Fonda, who have the audacity to be billed as a “feminist” while the grandkids are out back playing balloon toss with her old breast implants. I’m talking about colossal, Jupiter-moon sized mixed messages.
For example, how long can a society expect to survive for long in a civil fashion when our children are continually told that global warming is a “moral issue” and the killing of babies is a “choice.” Perhaps one day somebody will question Al Gore on how he would handle the ultimate dilemma: a woman who wants to drive to the abortion clinic in an SUV.
But perhaps the “pro-choice” logic – or illogic as it were – is intentional. If you think about it, for every female who is denied a birth, that’s one less possible instance of rape, incest, battery, forced genital mutilation and sex slavery. The reasoning being that the best way to decrease the rate of bank robberies is to blow up all the banks.
Women have rights, but apparently only after they reach a certain age.
