The religious left is emulating the tactics of their old nemesis, Jerry Falwell, in an effort to confuse evangelicals about politics, morality, scripture, right and wrong.
As I told you before, they're fishing around for a name for this movement, toying with ideas like "Red Letter Christians." But I have a better name for them, if it's not too judgmental of me. In the true spirit of the late Jerry Falwell, I think they should call themselves what they are – "the Immoral Minority."

It's not surprising that they are trying their best. They've been at it for years. But they are getting bigger audiences and venues that would have once been denied them.
Take, for instance, Jim Wallis' recent speech at Wheaton College.

Who is Jim Wallis?
He's the longtime editor of Sojourners magazine, which I would describe as socialist ideology disguised as Christianity. But, hey, that's me. I'll let you make up your own mind about this guy who can't decide who he loves more – Hillary or Obama – by reading a little of his blog.

"William Wilberforce was a young Barack Obama type."
That's what he said.
For the uninitiated, William Wilberforce was the great British political leader of the late 18th and early 19th centuries who fought slavery and eventually saw it abolished in the United Kingdom.
But, just so Hillary doesn't take offense, he did offer her some equal time. He suggested she and Obama and John Edwards are all good example of "Christian lay people."

I'm tempted to say these religious leftists confuse good intentions and lofty rhetoric with actual accomplishment. But that would be far too generous a mischaracterization of who they are and what they represent.
In fact, after some study of the subject matter, I have concluded they are simply following a completely different gospel than the one provided for us in the Holy Bible.
To them, it's not the meek who should or shall inherit the Earth. It's the ambitious politicians who promise government will be the new god. Just have faith in Washington. You don't have an obligation to help the poor, feed the hungry or shelter the homeless. Your obligation is to elect the right people who will make sure government does that for you.
I swear this is the message of pseudo-compassion I hear from the Jim Wallises and Tony Campolos of the world.

It is an absolute abomination (or is that Obama-nation?).
Meanwhile, no one in the church is standing up to these frauds.
So, I guess it's up to me.
I don't care. I don't have a congregation to risk. I don't have a tax exemption to protect. I don't have a church mortgage to pay off. I don't have purpose-driven organization to build. All I have is the truth to proclaim and serve, so help me God.

And the truth is deceivers are targeting the church today. They are waiting in the wings to tickle your ears with messages of "love" and "reconciliation" and "compassion." But it's not love and reconciliation and compassion they are about. It's power. It's covetousness. It's greed. It's envy. It's taking your eyes off the Holy One of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It's getting you caught up in the world of moral relativism – where up is down, left is right, black is white and right is wrong.
I'll be taking them on – and I'll be taking them down.
Perhaps my little sermonettes might inspire some reflection and courage in the pulpits of America.
