Chelsea Schilling, currently assistant commentary editor at WND and an honors student, has been hired as a full-time general assignment reporter upon her graduation from college in May, announced Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of the company.
Schilling, a California native, is expected to graduate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in pursuit of her journalism degree.
“We’re very gratified to welcome Chelsea Schilling into our company,” said Farah. “I know her to be a young journalist of great character and great ability with an enviable work ethic and unique background.”
Joining the U.S. Army at age 17, she received the rare designation of expert marksman with an M-16 rifle, M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon and hand grenades. Schilling graduated from the U.S. Army Missile and Munitions School and was stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C., Fort Gordon, Ga., and Fort Hood, Texas.
She is married to a Texas peace officer, currently Kiwanis police officer of the year, and has two young daughters.
Schilling was nominated for USA Today’s All-USA Academic Team and won several journalism awards for news reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Association for Women in Communications, the Writers’ League of Texas, the Baptist Press and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.
Besides her internship with WND, Schilling also worked as a producer at USA Radio Network in Dallas, Texas, and as a news reporter for the Sacramento Union.
