Real women take responsibility for their actions: Whiney women blame others.
Real women don't ask for special favors: Whiney women break in line.
Real women make informed choices: Whiney women make excuses.
Are you a "real woman" or a "whiney woman"? Before you answer that question, take this short presidential quiz:
- Which presidential candidate accused the other of being insensitive to women's issues?
- Which presidential candidate supports the "Fair Pay Act"?
- Which presidential candidate employs more women Senate staffers than men?
- Which presidential candidate pays the women on his staff, on average, more than the men?
If you answered Barack Obama to the first two questions, you would be right. However, the answer to the last two questions is John McCain.
Last week, in Albuquerque, N.M., Obama went trolling for women's votes. He unloaded on John McCain because he is against the so-called Fair Pay Act.
(W)hen you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer. It starts with equal pay. Sixty-two percent of working women in American earn half or more of their family's income. But women still earn 77 cents or every dollar earned by men in 2008. You'd think that Washington would be united in its determination to fight for equal pay.
The first thing you should know is that Obama's support of the Fair Pay Act is not a good thing for women and their families. Don't be fooled by labels. Be aware that the word "fair" depends on someone's definition, and it is subject to change. Fair is not the same as equal. Fair is subjective and fuzzy. Equal is definitive.
We are guaranteed equal pay for equal work. That has been the law of the land since the passage of the 1963 Equal Pay Act and the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Obama can't make that happen. It's already reality. He was talking down to us because he thinks we're stupid. What Obama supports is something called "pay equity" or "comparable worth," a failed feminist notion that has been around since the 1970s, and he thinks you are too dumb to know the difference.
Yes, women, on average, make 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man for very good reasons.
We tend to choose jobs:
- with easy entry and exit;
- with a pleasant, comfortable working environment;
- with less travel;
- with flexible hours.
In addition we:
- work fewer hours; and
- prepare for support jobs, not jobs with bottom-line responsibility.
In short, most women take jobs that don't leave us feeling "used up" at the end of the workday so we have energy left over for our families. That is our choice!
Feminists and their Obama surrogates want to do away with the law of supply and demand and devise a scheme to artificially make the jobs traditionally held by women and men pay the same. For example, they might make the pay of a construction worker equal that of a nurse, or a garbage collector equal that of a cashier to achieve this goal.
The Fair Pay Act is an effort to undo a reasonable Supreme Court decision, Ledbetter v. Goodyear. This would effectively eliminate the statute of limitations for discrimination cases filed under the Civil Rights Act, which would be a winner for lawyers and a loser for business, especially small businesses headed by women. It also, would put the pension funds of everyone in jeopardy.
Under current law, discrimination claims must be filed within 180 or 300 days, depending on the state. However, the law is flexible and the time period can be waived where fairness and circumstances require. Ledbetter essentially lost her case because she sat around for six years after discovering that her pay was lower than her peers before she filed her case.
When it comes to his payroll, it's McCain, not Obama, who puts his money where his mouth is. According to an analysis by Cybercast News Service of payroll data from the secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007, Barack Obama paid his average woman non-intern staffer about $6,000 less than the average man. However, John McCain paid the non-intern women on his staff an average of $2,500 more a year than the non-intern men. That's a record that even feminist darling Hillary Clinton cannot match!
So, gals, don't be chumps! Be the "real women" you were meant to be. Don't swoon over Obama's good looks or be swayed by his sweet-sounding rhetoric. Use your heads, not your hearts.
