Motor-mouth Murtha deserves walking papers

By Melanie Morgan

Rep. John “the Motor-mouth” Murtha is in a tough race to retain his seat, and he’s on his knees begging for a quick million dollars to help him cross the finish line. I couldn’t be happier about the gasbag’s situation.

“Veteran Democratic Rep. John Murtha (Pa.) has sent out a last-minute plea for $1 million to save his hotly contested seat, endangered by his own remarks describing his district as racist,” the Hill reported yesterday.

” ‘We need to raise another $1 million to compete,” his campaign fundraiser, Susan O’Neill, wrote in the e-mail obtained by The Hill. “We need money immediately.”

‘O’Neill blamed Republicans from outside Pennsylvania for Murtha’s problems. Polls show Murtha, running for his 18th term, ahead of his GOP opponent by just a few percentage points, the Hill reported.

Murtha’s campaign bellyaches that “swiftboaters” and others from outside the western Pennsylvania district are attacking him. Well, boo-hoo. Let me get out my hankie and cry some crocodile tears for the guy (not).

Murtha is fuming. In fact, he’s so hot he’s cursing like a storm trooper, or like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But then, I repeat myself.

The “gentleman” from Pennsylvania said about his challenger, retired Army Col. William Russell: “No (bleep) way” will a Virginia carpetbagger represent my district, according to Hot Air.

The truth is Murtha put himself in this situation. His anti-war rhetoric, filthy attacks on Marines and, more recently, his name-calling of his own constituents should be enough for any sane person to kick him out of office. Add that to his pork-belly spending, his alliance with limousine liberals like Nancy Pelosi, his part in the Abscam (Arab bribery scandal) and his inability to keep his mouth shut, and Murtha is beyond unfit to serve in Congress.

While Murtha was insulting our troops and trying to undermine their mission in Iraq, his challenger, retired Army Col. Russell, was serving in Iraq for America’s freedom. I really don’t see how there’s a contest here at all – except that Murtha has greased a lot of wheels by spending taxpayer money on special interest projects that equate to votes.

I don’t have enough space to write about all of the insults Murtha has hurled at the people who voted him into office and the people who put their lives on the line to protect his hide, but let’s take a trip down Murtha’s most memorable mockeries.

One of the most outrageous outbursts from Murtha came after Marines in Haditha responded to a roadside bomb to defend Americans. Murtha sounded like he was reading right off of an Oliver Stone movie script when he said the Marines had “killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”

Like Oliver Stone, Murtha made up the story out of thin air. Really thin air. He prattled on, launching more and more attacks on the Marines.

“There was no firefight. There was no [bomb] that killed those innocent people,” Murtha explained, adding there were “about twice as many” Iraqis killed than Time (magazine) had reported, according to Sweetness & Light.

Motor-mouth Murtha got his motor running before the facts were in. A Marine spokesman was stupefied by Murtha’s unbelievable charges.

“I do not know where Rep. Murtha is obtaining is information,” said Lt. Col. Sean Gibson, a spokesman for Marine Corps Forces Central Command in Tampa, Fla. “Thoroughness will drive the investigation.”

Murtha was dead wrong, of course. None of the Marines who have been tried were found to have “killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” The country is still awaiting an apology from Murtha.

Lately, Murtha is taking his rage out on his own constituents. First, he called his Pennsylvania district a “racist area.” He actually apologized for this comment, but only because the “racists” could vote. The apology didn’t come out just right, either. He said his district was “really redneck” until recently.

Those are just his most recent remarks about the Americans he wants to represent.

So let’s see: The people of Pennsylvania can vote for a true American hero, Col. Russell, or a hateful, bitter flamethrower who thinks his constituents are racists and who can’t tell the difference between a hero and a terrorist. Easy choice, folks.
