I still need to write my new year’s resolutions … and a WND article. I’m all about multi-tasking, so this year I’m going to attempt to do both at once. That way, I have between 10,000 and 20,000 accountability partners who read this and may want to join me, at least in part.
A lot of people don’t make resolutions because they have a poor track record of keeping them. One thing’s for sure, if you don’t set a goal, you’re sure not to make it. I also think there’s great value in writing them down. Habakkuk 2:2-3 says:
Then the LORD answered me and said:
Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.
So I’m writing them down, starting with No. 10.
10. I’m going to attempt the impossible in 2009. For my husband, it’s trying out for professional baseball. For me, it’s getting a movie made. And a television program aired. What is the dream you’ve pushed aside because it’s “impossible”? Do it; because with God, ALL THINGS are possible … even in this coming year.
9. I’m going to eat better and work out. I’m eating a candy bar while I write this, but resolutions don’t kick in until Thursday. And they’re supposed to be specific. So here goes: I’m going to walk/jog at least three times a week until the exercise equipment that people purchased in January gets posted on eBay in February and March. And, in 2009 I will no longer eat brownies as a meal.
8. Last year I wanted to go to the beach and paint a picture with my mom. I wrote it down and then I did it. This year, I want to have a baby. And I’d also like to use the nine months of waiting to write a book. God says we have not because we ask not. So I’m also asking for the things only He can do.
7. In 2009, I will make time for balance. Game nights, barbeques and fun. I will learn to cook something new at least once a week … no, let’s make this achievable, once a month. If you have an easy, healthy and great-tasting recipe, please e-mail it to me and help me keep this resolution.
6. I will make evangelism a priority in 2009. I will witness to my family, friends and those around me through love and service and the word of God that He promised will not return void. I will pray in faith for my family and friends and do something every single week to reach out to them and to the people God puts in my path.
5. I will pray for at least an hour a day. You can join me and others from around the country who are committed to do this daily at 3 p.m. Eastern time (directly following my radio program, which begins at 2 p.m. Eastern at www.f2a.org) at: 712-432-1690 – the access code is: 499061#. We’ve been doing it for months, and it has become the most powerful hour of my day.
4. I will not let life push out time with God and reading His word through this year. I heard a sermon this weekend about what happens when you feed the bears at a national park. Apparently, even though there are signs posted all around, people still feed them. And every year the rangers have to pull out the bodies of dead bears. Turns out, when they acquire their food from someone else, they become unable to find it for themselves. A fed bear is a dead bear. Too often we look for insight about God from other people, other books, or programs. There’s nothing wrong with leftovers, but I’m going back to getting fed directly from the source – every single day.
3. I’m going to stand for our Constitution until we know for certain that it isn’t being violated with the swearing in of a man whom we have no proof meets the basic criteria for the office of president. Being a natural born citizen really isn’t a lot to ask. It’s actually a constitutional requirement that no one has ever verified. And I’m going to fast and pray for God to bring the hidden things to light through the U.S. Supreme Court, which just happens to be considering the Obama citizenship issue (for the third time) on Jan. 9. The Supreme Court’s sole job description is to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I am praying that they will do their job. If the Constitution is not upheld by Jan. 20, I will still stand with those who defend it.
2. I will be a part of the resistance standing against an agenda that seeks to silence us. If Obama and the Democratic Congress achieve their goal of yanking Christians and conservatives off the radio airwaves, we will find another means to communicate. We will go underground if we have to, but we will not go away. This includes:
a) I will fight back on all fronts from the “censorship doctrine” to “thought crimes,” and speak the truth and proclaim the Gospel no matter what.
b) I will stand against the attack on innocent human life and do everything within my power to defeat the so-called “Freedom of Choice Act” that would wipe out every shred of protection children in the womb now have.
c) I will stand to defend marriage no matter how hostile the opposition becomes.
d) And I will stand with Israel in the face of terrorist attacks and polices that enable those attacks.
1. In his sermon, my cousin Kevin Folger of Cleveland Baptist Church helped to pinpoint the No. 1 resolution on my list when he read Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” If we seek God first and His righteousness – that’s obeying His law and His word – then all the other things on our list will be added. It’s a promise.
Despite all that is going on around us, if we follow this most important resolution, 2009 will be a very good year.
