Which revolution is this?

By Barbara Simpson

I wonder what sort of party the new president and his elected and appointed henchmen are planning after he signs this country into financial oblivion this week – to the tune of $787 billion?

The last time he held a White House dinner, the main course featured Wagyu Steak.

I’ve heard it’s good – meat from vegetarian-fed cattle and of course, without antibiotics or hormones, dry aged and well marbled.

No doubt the guests enjoyed the meal – they should have since the meat sells for $150 to $200 a pound.

At that price, it had better be good.

How considerate and democratic of the new president who is overseeing what is playing out to be the worst economic crisis in this country since the Great Depression of the ’30s.

It sounds like Marie Antoinette: “Let them eat cake!”

The president and his cohorts feast on the best while thousands of his countrymen lose their homes, their jobs, their savings and their retirement. Those are people who are lucky if they can afford hamburger, hot dogs or cold cuts.

But the president and his people dine in high style.

Didn’t he somewhere tell us he was a man of the people – one of us – who understands what the average guy goes through?

Yeah, he did.

But, he lied. He’s a politician, after all. In fact, he’s a Chicago pol.

He was campaigning for office and, in that mode, said whatever it took to get the votes to win. He got them, did win and now, Barack Obama believes he has carte blanche to do whatever he chooses.

If you don’t like it, tough.

As he famously said, “We won.”

End of story.

Well, maybe not. I don’t buy that, and I know I’m not the only American who feels that way.

Reality is that the final Senate vote on the stimulus bill last Friday was 60 to 38, and that victory included some turncoat Republicans: Sens. Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

First plan of action for freedom loving Republicans: Oust them from office and the party.

Specter, who’s suffering from cancer, managed to pork up the bill with $6.5 billion for medical research. I doubt it’ll be any help to him. Media refrain from any criticism of the dollar amount because of “consideration” for him.

What about “consideration” for hard-working Americans who have to pay that bill?

All those benefits and tax cuts we were promised disappeared while the spending increased. There isn’t enough money to bail out Medicaid, leaving individual states to deal with massive deficits at the same time they are facing their own bankruptcies.

Remember those promises about creating “new” jobs? Hah. “Create” means to make something from nothing. It sounds like the Obama plan will “create” worthless jobs.

Now we’re told the bill will create or save (and what does that mean?) “up to” 3 million jobs – not the more than 4 million new jobs touted.

Gee, and after Rep. Nancy Pelosi lamented about those 500 million Americans losing their jobs every month! Poor Obama will never catch up.

There’s money spread thinly to students, the unemployed, social security recipients, schools, welfare programs and even for rural Internet access. (There’s a recession stimulus!)

There’s even a new welfare program – $2.3 billion for “Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.”

Does that include illegal aliens?

There’s consideration for car buyers, home buyers, highway construction, alternative energy, high-speed rail, education and food stamps. You name it, there’s some money for it somewhere, though not what Americans were promised and certainly not what will put us on the road to economic recovery.

It will put us so deeply in debt we may never get out.

One thing we don’t get is the ability to keep more of our own money to spend as we need. Instead, the government takes it and spends it for us. Media call the passage a victory for Obama; perhaps for him, not for us.

It’s a fast track to socialism. It’s exactly what Barack Obama wants and what fits the goals of the so-called “Democratic” Party.

It may be a lot of things, but that party is not “democratic.”

Early reports said he would sign it today, Monday – this year’s official Presidents Day holiday. You can bet that’s no coincidence!

Never forget: Obama is all about image. After his continual ominous preaching that without a massive “stimulus” package right now this country would be economically doomed – that he would sign it on, or near, such a holiday would be his not too subtle way of trying to show how “presidential” he is – how Lincolnesque.

Yes, he is president. No, he’s not presidential.

The day Barack Obama signs the official United States Bankruptcy Plan into law is the day every citizen of this country who cares about its survival, had best kick into action a long range plan to take back their freedoms.

Some say it’s already too late, but “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.”

The band may be ready, and she may be vocalizing to warm up. We might even hear a few notes of music but – and this is a big but – it isn’t over.

Americans have too much history of freedom, too much history of willingness to spend the time, effort and blood to protect what is ours and – what is ours is written in our Constitution and the reasons for it are outlined in the Declaration of Independence.

People who think and act otherwise are traitors, putting the kiss of death on freedom.

It’s time for each one of us to speak out and rattle the cages of government on every level. Frighten them with the voice of the people. Their goal is to silence us but it is possible to fight back.

The truth is, government fears the people.
