Evangelist Greg Laurie, a longtime weekend columnist for WorldNetDaily, has announced that his Harvest Outreaches during 2009 – his 20th year holding Gospel events that have reached nearly 4 million people – will target California, New York and South Dakota.
Harvest with Greg Laurie has confirmed it will be at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, S.D., May 15-17; on Long Island, N.Y., June 13-14; and it will return to return to Angel Stadium of Anaheim Aug. 14-16.
Harvest with Greg Laurie events are known for relating to audiences
through contemporary means such as top notch music, live Internet webcasts and
hosted video podcasts, but the crux of each event is the nightly message
presented by Laurie, a longtime southern California pastor.
Called
the “evangelist of the future” by Billy Graham, Laurie draws on Scripture,
flavored with personal and cultural examples, to describe the relevance of
faith in today’s world.
Key questions he addresses are: Why am I here? Is God real?
What happens when I die?
Laurie, the senior pastor at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., also serves on the board of directors for Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse. He has spoken to more than 3.8 million people in stadiums and arenas around the world in his work with Harvest.
The organization said a key component of the South Dakota outreach will be its G3 One-on-One Personal Evangelism Program, a reference to Gideon’s army of 300 faithful that the Lord raised up in Judges 7:7.
“Our desire is to train and develop 300-plus young people in your community to expand God’s Kingdom,” the organization announced.
The Long Island meetings are scheduled at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, where some of the featured musical artists will be Kutless, P.O.D., Delirious and Jars of Clay.
The Harvest events, which ordinarily include a stop in California, will be at Anaheim in August, where the Katinas and Chris Tomlin tentatively are scheduled to be on the stage.
WND reported last year when thousands responded to the Gospel message delivered by Laurie during his Greater Philadelphia Harvest 08.
“Life is filled with pain, but God can intervene and change you and forgive whatever sin you have committed,” he told the crowds. “It’s not about how good or bad you are; it’s about Jesus. If you’ll come to Him, he will forgive you.”
Laurie also has been talking about the tragic vehicle accident that claimed the life of his son, Christopher, 33.
“To hear that your son has died is a parent’s worst nightmare. If I didn’t have Christ in my life giving me hope, I don’t know how I could have gotten through a single day,” he told people in Philadelphia.
“But Christopher was ready to meet God. The moment he took his last breath on earth, he took his first breath in heaven,” Laurie said.
“I’ll never be at peace with death, because death is the enemy.
But here’s the good news. Christ has overcome death because he died on the
cross and rose again. Death does not have the final word – God has the final
word. When a believer in Jesus Christ dies, he goes immediately into the
presence of God,” he said.
