U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., says the Democratic Party is watching out for illegal aliens, not American citizens, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, condemned immigration raids as “un-American.”
The comments from Pelosi criticizing actions by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which is following laws established by Congress, came in front of an audience at St. Anthony’s Church in San Francisco last Saturday.
Pelosi asked the audience, “Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?”
Rohrabacher was interviewed by RadioAmerica.org.

Rohrabacher was asked what message should be taken from Pelosi’s comments and what it means to America and his district.
The congressman said Pelosi “reflects the attitudes and positioning on immigration policy of the people who she represents here in Washington.”
“She represents what the Democrat Party believes,” he said. “I’m glad she articulated that so the American people can fully appreciate that the Democrat Party does not want the illegal immigrants to be taken out of jobs that they are taking.”
He said it’s clear the Democrats no longer want the government to enforce the nation’s border laws.
His district is hurting, at least partly because of that attitude, he said.
“What we have here is a situation even in good times having a flow of illegals into our work force bids down wages so the average Americans were making less money than they would have otherwise. Now jobs are scare. It actually means not only are pay levels going down but you have people [out of work] who would be working otherwise,” he said.
Pelosi, according to Fox News, told the audience the raids “must be stopped.”
“What value system is that? I think it’s un-American. I think it’s un-American.”
The House speaker, according to Fox News, came to the San Francisco church at the invitation of Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., who has launched a 17-city, cross-country tour called United Families.
The aim of the effort, says Gutierrez, is to put a human face on the immigration debate.
