Christians: We are to blame

By Mychal Massie

It is Easter, and in Christian churches throughout the land people will be celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord. We will also offer prayers and petitions for God’s mercy on a so-called evil land. But the land, i.e., America, is not evil as such. It is the hearts and souls of we who live within this country that have lost our way. And worse – we have placed in positions of power over ourselves those who, once attaining said power, become even more corrupt and recalcitrant.

The stone that was placed in front of the entrance of the tomb was put there to keep the “Truth” in – it was rolled away early that first Easter morning so that the “Truth” could be revealed among men prior to His ascendance into heaven and preparatory to His transplendid return for His church.

The angel that met those who first arrived at the tomb that morning told them to “come see the place where the Lord lay and go quickly, and tell His disciples that He is risen.” (Matthew 28:6,7; The New Scofield Reference Bible; Authorized King James Version)

Thus we are instructed to trust in the risen Lord. But those of us who should know better have allowed that message to be corrupted and, in many instances, abandoned. We have placed our trust and confidence in corrupt leaders – then when they disappoint and deceive, we bemoan the zeitgeist of America as morally hopeless. It is not America, the country, that is morally bankrupt; it is the people of America – those who comprise the church and those whom He has set in charge of same.

True men and women of God do not engage or indulge in the things we have come to accept as legitimate – no matter how reasonable those things may seem in our minds. We are told to lean on His understanding, not our own.

We blame the position we find ourselves in on everything, and in most instances everyone, but ourselves. America did not become what it is today by accident. It became what it is because those who should know better turned their backs on the “Truth.”

We turned to corrupt men to accomplish “our will” juxtaposed to leaning on our everlasting Lord. We chose the lesser of evils to represent us instead of saying no to all – understanding that the lesser of two evils is still evil.

We have stopped teaching our children to observe all that the Lord has commanded us, and we have certainly stopped exampling same for them. Thus, we continue to ensure to ourselves a future of corrupt men and women.

It’s Easter, and as sure as the Lord arose and ascended into heaven, He is coming back again to gather His own. I don’t believe biblical prophecy can be prevented, but I do believe its fulfillment can be delayed pursuant to when said will culminate in “the end.”

This Easter, let us not only praise our God for the resurrection, but let us ask Him to renew in us a spirit of willingness to go forth and make disciples, and pray that He would raise up a generation of men and women that reach many for Him before the Lord’s return.

I pray you all God’s grace, wisdom, peace, obedience and joy this Easter.
