A kindergarten teacher under fire for stuffing human feces into a 5-year-old boy's backpack and sending him home with an embarrassing note will reportedly not be fired, but her student will finish the year at another school.
That's the outcome of discussions between the boy's father, Jason Morrow, and officials with the West Valley School District in Yakima, Wash.
"We met with the teacher and have taken appropriate action I think," Superintendent Peter Ansingh told KIMA-TV. "This is a veteran teacher who's done a lot of work for us for 30 years."
But when pressed to reveal precisely what kind of disciplinary action was being taken regarding teacher Susan Graham, Ansingh said, "I'm not able to share that with you."
He told the Yakima Herald-Republic that Graham still has a job.
The disturbing story began last Friday at Apple Valley Elementary School in Yakima, as a Graham packaged up some human feces, placing it in her student's backpack along with a sticky note reading, "This little turd was on the floor in my room."

"She didn't know if it was his, she just found it on the floor and assumed it was," Morrow told ABC affiliate KAPP-TV.
"As a family it's humiliating," he said. "She made a conscious decision to do this."
Morrow says he's been called to the school three times this year because his son had not properly wiped himself, but he doesn't believe in this case his boy had any accident on the floor.
His son will reportedly attend another school within the district for the rest of the school year, but return to Apple Valley in the fall.
"I was very encouraged by [the district's] response," Morrow told the local paper. "They profusely apologized."
Mrs. Graham has not made any public comment to explain her actions.
WND asked readers in its daily poll to sound off on the teacher's case, and 36 percent of respondents said, "Such a lack of judgment shows she's unqualified to teach children," with 28 percent saying, "Dump this teacher immediately."
Comments in WND about the situation continue to be posted, including:
- My wife and I think this woman is a wonderful educator. Our kids love
her! My wife assists in her class weekly and we feel blessed to have
our kids in her care. Don't be so quick to judge her. ... I do not want
my daughter in a classroom where a child cr-ps on the floor! Oh, and
handles it! It is unsanitary and disgusting to everyone in the class
that is exposed to it.
- This woman could be a great teacher but what she did is inexcusable, no matter what the circumstances. You just don't put poo in a child's backpack no matter what, and the note was extremely flip and uncaring.
- Instead of being a grown-up over the ordeal and speaking to the parents she took the unprofessional and immature route. Regardless if the child knew he was carrying around a turd can you honestly say if this was done to your child you wouldn't be upset? You would have praised the teacher as if she was informing you that your child pooped and you need to better train the child? What this teacher did was sick.
