Character assassin Olbermann

Frankly, I can't believe this guy is still on the air.

Keith Olbermann, that is.

But then again, is he really?

If you host a nightly program built around character assassination, partisan smears, predictable ideological tripe, party-line goose-stepping and self-important, self-righteous political correctness and nobody but the gang at Daily Kos and the Huffington Post watches, are you really on the air?

I don't like to spend too much time discussing the outrages of Keith Olbermann. For the most part, he's pretty irrelevant – toiling away at a cable network that continues to lose viewership even from its hard-core base of those suffering from what V.I. Lenin characterized as "infantile left-wing disorder."

Nevertheless, for the great masses who don't watch MSNBC, I think it's important you know what Olbermann did last week: He blamed the Fox News Channel for the murder of late-term abortionist George Tiller.

You can take my word for it, or you can watch it for yourself if you have any doubts.

Now let me get this straight.

Olbermann, best known for his regular feature dubbed "The Worst Person in the World," in which he viciously and unscrupulously demonizes individuals with whom he disagrees – which, sooner or later, is just about everyone with a brain and a public platform – accuses the Fox News Channel of being complicit in the murder of a notorious late-term abortionist because it reported what he did?

That's about the size of it.

Let me put this in perspective.

I have been characterized as "The Worst Person in the World" by Keith Olbermann – I believe on more than one occasion.

Now let's say some maniac takes a shot at me and takes me out.

Is Keith Olbermann going to turn himself in as an accomplice in the murder?

If so, Olbermann will undoubtedly soon find himself in prison, because his list of worst persons in the world is in the hundreds by now. Sooner or later, the odds are that one of these people will meet an untimely death at the hands of some maniac.

Understand, I am not suggesting Olbermann will be guilty of murder in that case. He is not.

I just think Olbermann is guilty of being an idiot – a pathetically inept, self-aggrandizing chump who takes himself way too seriously.

Yet, by Olbermann's own standard, he will inevitably be frog-marching himself into police custody for inciting the murder of one of his enemies.

Of course, that would be true if Olbermann actually lived up to his own standards – or if he actually had any standards.

But people like Olbermann don't have standards. They do what is right in their own eyes while condemning others for doing what they do.

Should one of Olbermann's targets of character assassination ever actually be a victim of a real assassination, Olbermann will take no responsibility for his actions. Why?

He knows no one watches his show
He knows no one else takes him seriously
He knows there is a difference between expressing opinions about people and shooting them

At least I think he's cognizant enough to understand these things.

Nevertheless, in his desperation to establish an audience for his bloviating, Olbermann will continue to tear down others – most notably the competition that is wiping the floor with his network.

He'll lie. He'll deceive. He'll cheat. He'll distort. And, yes, he'll incite – even while accusing others of doing just what he does.
