The first Friday of June is to be recognized as National Doughnut Day. Appropriately, I think the poster child for said day is Barack Obama, because the two most popular kinds of doughnuts come in two types: one is a ring-shaped piece of dough covered with glitter and/or thick icing – the other is a piece of dough filled with jelly.
They may look good, and in moderation they may taste good, but the bottom line is they are about as good for you as the oil they are deep-fried in. They are hollow calories. They make you full for a short while – but in the end you need more calories, with the end result being you gain unhealthy weight.
That is what we have with Obama. He is a person covered in eye-appealing icing, with nothing in the middle, whose policies are the tangential equivalent of a crème/jelly-filled doughnut. He is without substance, and as a result of his administration, it will take tens of trillions of dollars to bail us out of the trillions of dollars of debt he is burying us under.

The flagship of our doughnut in chief is his national health care plan. Supposedly, there are some 50 million uninsured Americans – and Obama is determined to provide coverage for them at what we can be assured is a grossly under-estimated $1.5 trillion over the next decade. Even without factoring in the laws of unintended consequences – or that Congress has proven themselves incapable of running their own affairs without disastrous results – how can any marginally lucid individual believe that government can run health care? How can we expect government to control a business as astronomically complex as health care better than the free market that created it and has run it from the beginning?

We have witnessed Obama seize control of the auto industry and a large part of the financial sector. There has been a lot of elapidal-like, ear-appealing populist speech, but apart from paying off the unions and forcing the auto companies to build automobiles American drivers don't want, what good can come from a fascist bent on a government-controlled free market and labor force? Does he presume to achieve what Mussolini couldn't?
North Korea is launching missiles and Iran is aggressively seeking to be a nuclear reality in the Middle East even as it promises to vaporize Israel – while our fearless leader is busy making nice-nice with Islamists, the majority of whom are singularly committed to the demise of America. He applauds the growth of Islam in America, misrepresenting the actual numbers of same, while ignoring the growing number of Islamic terrorist attempts within our borders.

We are still awaiting a full and concise rendering of his intentions for those detained at Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo). He has ordered its closing, but has no plan pursuant to what to do with its detainees – even though there is documentation showing many of those released from Gitmo immediately returned to planning and being involved in attacks on Americans. Will Obama next recommend turning supervision of the detainees over to the Council on American-Islamic Relations?
He claimed to have a plan for education, but he has stood passively by while highly successful voucher programs in the most dismal school districts are mandated to end.
Barack Obama may have been a successful community organizer. But while cultural extortion and fomenting malcontent may look good on the resume of a smarmy senator from Illinois, the same does not a great president make. At least not a president seeking to leave his name in the Parthenon of greatness enjoyed by Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, Reagan, or to a lesser extent, even Kennedy.
Barack Obama is showing himself to be more of a doughnut than a strong, principled leader with each passing day – lots of fancy and enticing rhetoric, i.e., icing with no substance where or when it counts. He is simply a man who is adroit at filling people with the hollow calories of his empty words, which will result in an emaciated bulimic nation in need of untold infusions of cash to save her.
