I don't blame David Letterman for making his crude jokes about Sarah Palin's daughter – nor do I hold him responsible, as such. I blame women for his contemptible ignorance in thinking he could do so with impunity.
Too many of today's generation of women have forgotten what it is to truly be a lady, and worse, they have forgotten and redefined how to respect themselves. When women view their single most important demand in life as the right to be the supply chain for a multi-billion dollar industry by freely donating their unborn children to it – how can they expect men, especially the Letterman types, to respect any aspect of their being? Save as useful tools for selfish pleasure without fear of consequence or responsibility.
His comments, in the context of what he does, were no different than those made by Don Imus, when he called players on a women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos." The difference being that those Imus attempted to belittle were in a protected minority class and Sarah Palin is not.

Duplicitous double standards based on political positions undermine the value and merit of those who, as my grandmother used to say, "grunt at a gnat and swallow a camel."
TRENDING: Is this what you voted for, America?
Women's suffrage came about because women, as a whole, demanded it. But today, even though abuse of women by men is nearly universally condemned, there are those who rush to say it is the woman's fault she was abused. Some women even argue that the abused deserve it.
Self-serving political interests prevented many women from condemning the actions of Bill Clinton. Clinton was pro-abortion and that mattered more than his destroying the life and future of Monica Lewinsky. No public consideration was given for what the young intern's future life would be like. No public consideration was given for what any man who dated her would face. No public consideration was given for what she would face in future work environments. And certainly no public consideration was given for what her children would face should she choose to have any.

In actuality no public consideration was given to the public humiliation his wife and daughter were forced to endure. They will forever be tethered to his actions and subsequent lies.
I was raised to respect myself and, accordingly, was made to understand that respecting women was respecting myself. Holding chairs, opening doors, helping women on/off with their coats, carrying packages, standing when a woman enters or rises to be excused, at times ordering for them – neither diminishes me or them. But today, not only do many women find such common courtesy distasteful, sadly, even more do not expect such courtesy.
Mothers not only do not expect such behavior from their husbands, but they pass said lack of concern on to their children. They excuse that which should be condemned while not only singing along with them, but by supplying misogynistic, distasteful music CDs for them. Ergo, lack of respect becomes generational. Men understand that they are little more than sperm donors and behave accordingly.
The bottom line is that you cannot have it both ways. Respect is not color-coded, nor is it based on political persuasion. Vocal liberal women's groups are only vocal when it comes to abortion or trying to force private all-male clubs to admit women into membership. Their silence in defense of Monica Lewinsky, the attacks on Condoleezza Rice, Janet Rogers Brown, Carrie Prejean, and Sarah Palin and her children, has been deafening and telling.

Letterman's joke was a miserably crude and pathetic attempt at sarcastic humor for a woman he despises. His contempt for Gov. Palin is in no small part because of the respect she has for herself as a woman. I submit that women and women's groups who are so obviously duplicitous pursuant to what they wish to feign insult at are no better than Letterman. I further submit that if respect is to be based on political persuasion, they have greatly reduced the number of available men who are willing to treat them as ladies.
