LONDON – MI5, the British Security Service, has hired 50 computer-savvy youngsters – some only in their late teens – to work in a top-secret Cyber Operations Command, according to a report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

The command has one of the smallest budgets in Britain’s intelligence community, but Jonathan Evans, the 50 year-old head of MI5, believes it has a vital role in combating a new form of terrorism – cyber terrorism that has been traced to China, Russia and al-Qaida.
"In the past few months, over a thousand attempts have been made to penetrate our computers that run air traffic, power stations, government offices and financial companies," confirmed a high-ranking intelligence officer who has helped to create the Cyber Command.

Lord West, the security minister, admitted that the key members of the command are "youngsters who have been naughty boys until we caught them. Now we use their talents to stop other naughty boys from trying to shut down this country."

Evans has confirmed: "Cyber spies from the former Communist bloc have increased hacking into government and industry to try and penetrate our military and technology secrets. Our entire national infrastructure is under severe threat. We also know that al-Qaida has recruited a number of Asian hackers."
Lord West said: "The banking crisis and the global economic situation has shaken confidence as the credit crunch bites deeper. It makes it the perfect place for the enemy hackers to operate. But it is also good ground for our own hackers to outsmart them."
The Cyber Command is housed in a secret underground facility in central London and has a range of equipment recommended by the young hackers.
The hackers have been given immunity from past offenses in return for their expert help.
