There are growing indications that Arabs in the Middle East may be offering help to the Muslim Chinese Uighurs, who are in a virtual state of rebellion against the Beijing government, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

For the first time, there are reports that the United Arab Emirates recently attempted to ship arms, ammunition and explosives to the Uighurs in western China, but the shipment was detained in India.
This follows expressions of concern from other Middle East Arabs over the harsh Chinese treatment of the Uighurs during July rioting in the regional capital of Urumqi.

The Turkish government and a large number of businesses also have called for a boycott of Chinese goods in retaliation for the Chinese government's treatment of the Uighurs, whose heritage in the region goes back centuries.

The Uighurs are a Turkic people more closely associated with Central Asians, who have been cut off from families in the Uighur province by the Chinese government.

The UAE offer of assistance became known after one of its C-130 Hercules transport aircraft was detained and its weapons cargo seized by Indian authorities as the aircraft landed at Calcutta Airport en route to Xinjiang.
"The UAE embassy had sought clearance for over flying and landing of their air force flight at Calcutta Airport en route to Xinjiang, China," the Indian Foreign Ministry said.
The detention of the shipment of arms, ammunition and explosives destined for the Uighurs in western China is the first known active assistance from an Arab country to aid fellow Muslims.

According to sources, the flight from Abu Dhabi landed at Calcutta on its way to Xinjiang. Only upon landing did the captain of the aircraft file a declaration with Indian Customs that the aircraft was carrying arms, ammunition and explosives.
The flight was detained since the items were not mentioned in any initial application.
The Muslim Uighurs have been rioting in the westernmost Uighur Autonomous province, where Han Chinese, at the instigation of the government, have been engaging in street battles with them.
