Jimmy Carter betrayed the shah of Iran, which allowed for the rise of Ayatollah Khomeini and the resurgence of worldwide Muslim terrorism. Now, Barack Obama, following in Carter's footsteps, has betrayed Czech and Polish leaders, and the obvious question is what new international threats will Obama's treachery give rise to?
As a candidate, Obama promised that, if elected, he would see to it that no missile-defense shields would ever be placed in that region – so it isn't surprising that he would now betray our allies.
This is one more act by Obama that leads reasonable thinking persons to question his decision-making ability and/or his true motives for America. In one week, we have witnessed Obama lying about his universal health-care reform in a nationally televised teleprompter speech before Congress. We witnessed his agents send out talking points with instructions to brand all criticism of his health-care reform plans, and those who level same, as racist – while Obama pretends to scoff at the idea that said criticism is based on race. And now we witness him betraying the leaders of Eastern Europe.

Obama would have us believe that the land-based missile shield is no longer needed because the facts and intelligence data have changed and currently show that Iran is "now further behind in their missile development than originally thought."
Obama claims we have a new defense system that is "smarter, stronger and swifter," but what he failed to tell us is how strapping a few short-range missiles to the deck of a ship is realistic protection for that region or America. He has cut the defense budget and scrapped defense programs and technology that were being developed that would have provided America with a military edge. He has capitulated to his left-wing extremist anti-war supporters, and now he has betrayed the trust and confidence of Eastern European leaders who jeopardized their personal well-being to support the planned missile shield.

It was Defense Secretary Robert Gates who had initially proposed the ground-based missile-defense system to President Bush in 2006. Now Obama is using Gates as political cover. Gates, in his press conference, parroted Obama, stating that "anyone who says [we] are scrapping missile defense for Europe does not understand what is going on." He claims, "The new, more mobile, more agile system will be fielded six to seven years earlier than the ground-based system [we] were planning for the Czech Republic and Poland." And that "all those who believe the missile defense in Europe is being scrapped are either misinformed or misrepresenting the reality of what [we] are doing."
"I believe this new approach provides a better missile-defense capability for our forces in Europe, for our European allies and eventually for our homeland, than the program I recommended almost three years ago," claims Gates.

If that is the case, both Gates and Obama need to definitively explain exactly what change in intelligence has led to his abrupt change of mind. Obama and Gates might also explain the apparent contradiction that recent developments point to. In the last couple months alone, Iran put a satellite into space, continues to make significant progress on a long-range ballistic missile, and also tested a two-stage solid fuel rocket May 20.
Shouldn't those events be viewed as Iran making steps forward? And if that isn't enough to contradict Obama for appeasing the Russians at the expense of our allies, and potentially Israel as well, what about the International Atomic Energy Agency's report, "which suggests [IAEA] was more convinced Iran had been trying to make a bomb than its outgoing director, Mohamed ElBaradei, had admitted." ("IAEA Secret Report: Iran Worked On Nuclear Warhead"; Julian Borger; Guardian.co.uk; Sept. 18, 2009)
"The agency … assesses that Iran has sufficient information to be able to design and produce a workable implosion nuclear device based on HEU [highly enriched uranium] as the fission fuel. … It shows that Iran is a lot further along on this than most people think. … There was also evidence, the report says, that Iran had worked on developing a chamber to carry a warhead on top of one of its missiles that is quite likely to be nuclear."
It may not be clear to some why the sudden change in opinion about Iran's long-range capabilities, but it is to me. The Pentagon's opinion has changed because Obama wanted it changed. It is either his foolish theorization, borne out of the Leninist classrooms in which he was inculcated with Alinsky and Mao, or it is the foolish belief that he has sway over Putin and Ahmadinejad.

It is a pox on the career of Robert Gates to give his imprimatur of credibility to a narcissist who's intent, not just on "fundamentally changing America," but on the betraying of our allies as well.
