The unknown liberal

Tired of gritting your teeth, pulling your hair and screaming over the liberals now running Washington? Liberty Counsel has a suggestion: Pray for them.

"God is the ultimate trump card," said Mathew D. Staver, founder of the organization. "The admonition to pray for our leaders is one that we take seriously."

With that, Liberty Counsel announced the creation of its "Adopt-a-Liberal" prayer-in-action program.

It is based on the words of the Apostle Paul to Timothy to pray for "all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."

"It is easy to berate those in authority and more difficult to pray for them, but that is what the Bible commands us to do. Our leaders affect life, liberty and family, and we aim to restore poor leaders to right thinking. We believe in miracles. The Apostle Paul experienced a radical change of heart on the road to Damascus," Staver said.

The current list of liberals includes Democrats, Republicans, Independents and those who are not political leaders but whose leadership and actions affect our lives.

The program encourages people "to pray daily for the liberal(s) of your choice, so each can become a good influence on our nation's culture. Prayer is powerful! It allows God to change the minds of those for whom we are praying."

Among those already featured on the list are President Barack Obama, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Barney Frank, Science Czar John Holdren, Sen. Olympia Snowe, Barry Lynn and others.

There is even the "Unknown Liberal," which allows people to nominate a liberal of their choice.

Liberty Counsel also said it will be creating a deck of cards similar to baseball trading cards, with one side featuring the picture of a liberal and on the other side some of their liberal positions "that negatively impact life, liberty and family."

"In this way people can pray for a specific person and then trade cards with their friends," the organization said. "There will be 51 cards, which is one card short of a full deck!"

A bumper sticker, "Have you prayed for a liberal today?" also is coming.

The program encourages Christians to "pick one or more of the liberals we have posted online at www.LC.org, or choose your own. … If you are led to choose one or more of the liberals we have selected for consideration, please read their brief biographical statement, including the reasons they stand in need of prayer."

"We fully expect that many of our adoptees will 'graduate' from this prayer program with vivid testimonies of God having changed their lives and worldviews!" the program announces.

Bloomberg, for example, "consistently takes three positions: pro-abortion, pro–gun control, and pro–same-sex marriage."

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "favors abortion, embryonic stem cell research and opposed criminalizing harm to an unborn child."

Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano "has refused to retract her department's report that warned against so-called 'right-wing extremists,' with such groups being defined as people who believe in traditional American values like the right to bear arms and the sanctity of life, and even including veterans who hold such views."
