The Constitution is quite specific about what constitutes treason:
"Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.
"The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted."

Treason is an emotional charge. If it were not spelled out in the Constitution, most of us who have been politically active or opposed the government's actions at some point during our lives would perhaps be in jail for treason. It's always easy for those in power to equate treason with opposition to their personal power.
That being said, the political left in America has been engaged in covert, under-the-radar treason against the United States, to expand their own personal power, since at least the days of Whittaker Chambers, Alger Hiss and FDR.

When America developed the bomb, some of the physicists working on the project couldn't wait to share it with our enemies. The Rosenbergs were quite rightly executed for their part in handing over plans for the bomb to the Soviet Union. While the legal charge was espionage, the actual result was treason.

Philip Agee published the names of many CIA agents in 1975, in his book, "Inside The Company: CIA Diary." This act destroyed America's intelligence-gathering apparatus against communist efforts in South America and resulted in the death of those furnishing information to the United States. Agee never paid for his treason, and indeed remains a hero to much of the left today.
John Walker, his sons, wife, brother and friends did for electronic intelligence what Agee did for human intelligence: Gave our most sensitive naval intelligence to the Soviets for 18 years, which told them exactly what we knew about them. He went to prison for espionage. He committed treason.
It is interesting to note that while the Constitution is specific about what constitutes treason, it is silent on its methods. That is why the left has been so successful in its campaign of treason in support of communism around the world.
Barack Obama has now elected to carry on in the Hate America First leftist tradition of treason. As John Yoo points out in the Wall Street Journal, the trial will force the U.S. government to hand over the methods and sources of intelligence to the self-proclaimed enemy military commander who organized and carried out the 9/11 attacks.

As Yoo points out, "The Supreme Court has upheld the use of (military) commissions for war crimes. The procedures for these commissions received the approval of Congress in 2006 and 2009. Stranger yet, the Obama administration declared last week that it would use these military commissions to try five other al-Qaida operatives held at Guantanamo Bay."
It would appear that the only possible reason for one civilian trial is to hand over intelligence to the enemy that would otherwise be an overtly treasonous act. Do you think Barack Obama is a Muslim? Do you think his loyalties lie outside the United States?
Do you think Pelosi and Reid are complicit in Obama's treason, by not calling a joint session of Congress and demanding that Obama present his bona fides regarding the "natural born citizen" clause of the Constitution?
Their actions indicate that Pelosi, Reid and everyone wearing the Democrat label are so power-hungry for daily control of their fellow citizens' lives that covert acts of treason are considered by them an acceptable price for their personal power.
