Hannity calls 'How Evil Works' 'terrific, powerful'

"If there's a basic unit of evil – like a cell or a molecule, a basic building block – it's the lie," Kupelian told Hannity and his 15 million radio listeners during the Feb. 17 interview. "And Washington is built on lies and deception."

Hannity asked: "Do you think that everything [Obama] says is purposely manipulative?"

Kupelian: "It has to be. See Sean, these people – they look at the purpose of government [as being] to redistribute wealth. ... They look at us like we're farm animals and they're the farmer, and some animals have too much food and some animals don't have enough food ... and so they take from us and give it to others."

Why, Hannity asked, do so many politicians, like John Edwards, become so out of touch with reality that they engage in adulterous affairs while running for the presidency?

Kupelian: "There's something about being in power, whether in political power, or a 'god' of Hollywood, or a music star. It doesn't have to go to your head, but if you drink in all that praise, if you swallow it and accept yourself as some sort of god – whether you call it ego, pride, narcissism, or just being super-self-centered – it's really toxic for a person's soul. And even though they may appear to have everything that we want – wealth, popularity, adoration, influence and all that – there is terrible conflict."

Hannity: "I think the antidote to all of this is you kind of have to get on your knees everyday and thank God for the blessings in your life and realize that really whatever good you have is a gift. … I think fame – I don't think it's healthy for most people ... I see how it literally destroys people."

Kupelian agreed, quoting Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, the revered Soviet dissident who endured the gulags and exposed the evil of the Soviet Union to the West. Toward the end of his life, trying to explain the tremendous amount of evil unfolding in the world, Solzhenitsyn concluded: "Men have forgotten God. That is why all this has happened."

Hannity: "It's simple, yet profound."

Explaining his journalistic modus operandi in "How Evil Works," Kupelian said: "My secret wish is that if I can make the principles of how evil works really clear in these extreme examples – school shootings, terrorism, the big mega-crimes we read about in the news – the same things are happening in our own lives, in smaller ways, in more subtle ways.
