‘We Con the World’ mocks coverage of flotilla conflict

By Bob Unruh

In a knockoff of the famous “We Are the World” video created originally to aid Africa, a new “We Con the World” satire video by Israeli author and columnist Caroline Glick has been released, mocking the general media coverage of the conflict between Israeli forces blockading the terrorist Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and a team dispatched from Turkey to run supplies past the blockade.

Glick explained that featured on the video are the “Turkish-Hamas ‘love boat’ captain, crew and passengers in a musical explanation of how they con the world.”

“We think this is an important Israeli contribution to the discussion of recent events,” she said.

The lyrics are:

There comes a time
When we need to make a show
For the world, the Web and CNN
There’s no people dying,
so the best that we can do
Is create the greatest bluff of all

We must go on pretending day by day
That in Gaza, there’s crisis, hunger and plague
Coz the billion bucks in aid won’t buy their basic needs
Like some cheese and missiles for the kids

We’ll make the world
Abandon reason
We’ll make them all believe that the Hamas
Is Momma Theresa
We are peaceful travelers
With guns and our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

Ooooh, we’ll stab them at heart
They are soldiers, no one cares
We are small, and we took some pictures with doves
As Allah showed us, for facts there’s no demand
So we will always gain the upper hand

We’ll make the world
Abandon reason
We’ll make them all believe that the Hamas
Is Momma Theresa
We are peaceful travelers
we’re waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

If Islam and terror brighten up your mood
But you worry that it may not look so good
Well well well well don’t you realize
You just gotta call yourself
An activist for peace and human aid

We’ll make the world
Abandon reason
We’ll make them all believe that the Hamas
Is Momma Theresa
We are peaceful travelers
We’re waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

We con the world
We con the people
We’ll make them all believe the IDF is Jack the Ripper
We are peaceful travelers
We’re waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV
We con the world (Bruce: we con the world…)
We con the people (Bruce: we con the people…)
We’ll make them all believe the IDF is Jack the Ripper
We are peaceful travelers
We’re waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV
The truth will never find its way to your TV

The conflict developed a week ago when six vessels carrying supplies and people from Turkey and other nations intentionally tried to violate the blockade of Gaza that had been set up by Israel and others when the terrorist group Hamas took control of the region several years ago.

The worldwide media largely has portrayed the blockade runners as peaceful civil rights activists although video of the actual conflict reveals a different perspective.

Glick, who served in the Israeli Defense Forces as a captain and was coordinator of negotiations with the Palestinian Liberation Organization, worked with the nation’s antiquities agency, served as Assistant Foreign Policy Adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and now writes columns for the Jerusalem Post, released her first book, “Shackled Warrior: Israel and the Global Jihad,” in 2008.

The satire targeted the “We Are the World” charity song recorded in the 1980s by a long list of prominent artists. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and was an American benefit for African famine relief.

It was the first single ever to be certified multi-platinum and has been posted online in a number of forms, including this excerpt:

On the Gateway Pundit blog, contributor Jim Hoft noted Glick “may have found herself a new career.”

Participants in the forum page there suggested:

  • Love it! Great job! Laughing in the face of your enemy is the ultimate comeback.
  • Great lyrics. Sad facts.
  • I wonder if the libs who sang the original ‘We Are the World’ are ticked off? I hope so. I stand with you Israel, as does God and millions of Americans.
  • Go Israel! You have every right to defend yourselves. The Hamas are terrorists…”
