WASHINGTON – What is the tea-party movement all about? What should it be all about?
That will be the topic on "Fox and Friends" this morning when Joseph Farah visits to talk about his new book, "The Tea Party Manifesto: A Vision for an American Rebirth."

Farah says some elements within the tea-party movement are trying to constrain activists from promoting causes other than economic issues. That is a mistake, Farah says.
"The tea party arose largely because of the failure of the Republican Party," Farah says. "And why did the Republican Party fail Americans? Because its leadership bought into the 'big tent' lie – that if you only talk about economics and materialistic issues, you build a bigger coalition. It was untrue then and it is untrue now. Ironically, though, the tea-party movement is engaged in the same debate that nearly destroyed the Republican Party."

Farah says the answer is not creating a laundry list of positions on all the issues of the day. Instead, he says, the tea-party movement should emulate the founding fathers "who crafted a beautiful, compelling document called the Declaration of Independence that was much more than a list of grievances. It was a vision of a better, freer, more just way of life."

The founders should be the model for the direction and success of the tea-party movement, Farah says.
"After all," he says, "isn't there a reason this movement is called the tea party? Isn't that an allusion to what happened in Boston in 1773? The tea-party activists shouldn't be listening to political consultants and politicians about what to do. They need to search their hearts, their consciences, their Bibles and their history books."
"The Tea Party Manifesto" debuts officially July 4. Farah will address the second Tea Party Convention in Las Vegas July 15. He also delivered a keynote address at the first convention in Nashville in February.
Farah actually predicted the birth of the tea-party movement in a 2003 book called "Taking America Back: A Radical Plan to Revive Freedom, Morality and Justice," now in its third edition and 15th printing. He got more specific about that prediction in 2008 in a book called, "None of the Above," in which he forecast that a huge, grass-roots rebellion would arise if Barack Obama were elected president.
