Obama is back, once again trying to put fresh lipstick on the pig called Obamacare by telling more lies.
In his latest effort to promote the benefits of his health plan, he accused Republicans of leading a campaign to repeal his health-care legislation. His assertion is, in a word, untrue. He is trying to foment fear-mongering and exploit victimization syndrome. Congressional Republicans are doing anything but fighting to repeal health care. When was the last time you heard a word from the Republican leadership about repealing it? There are Republican candidates talking about it, but not the hierarchy. They're focused on getting candidates elected, the BP spill, Elena Kagan and spending.
Obama claimed that Republicans were trying to take the country back (as in backwards). He said, "I refuse to go back, and so do countless Americans" – all of which is patently untrue. It is he who is trying to take us back – back to Mao and Lenin – where the government is the chief, if not primary, provider of all services, where the government is the primary employer and where the government, in effect, controls all aspects of an individual's life. That is something that the overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to, and he knows it. As Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said, "[Obama's] trying to sell us a bill of goods that the American people aren't buying."
Karen Kerrigan, president and CEO of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council, wrote: "In pushing for health-care reform … Obama promised that – under his plan – Americans would be able to keep the insurance they have. That promise is beginning to fall short." (See full article: "The Fight Begins to Keep the Insurance We Have"; TheHill.com; June 14, 2010.)
The American Medical Association told USA Today that 17 percent of doctors surveyed now limit the number of Medicare patients they accept. Among primary-care physicians, the number balloons to 31 percent. Another survey shows 13 percent of doctors are now refusing to even participate in Medicare, up from 8 percent in 2008 and 6 percent in 2004 ("Doctors Limit New Medicare Patients"; Richard Wolf; June 20, 2010).
What is troubling is that this is exactly what Obama assured us would not happen. What's even more troubling is that this is taking place "six months before millions more baby boomers flood the program."
It's not just that Obama knowingly lied, it's that he knowingly lied with a plan in mind – one that likely has his mentor, Saul Alinsky, jumping up and down in hell, and not from walking on hot coals.
Obama doesn't just use crises to his advantage – he creates them specifically for his use and benefit.
Doctors are turning away patients because they cannot afford to treat them, which allows Obama to attack the medical and health-care profession as being unfair and discriminatory. It allows him to parade victims before the cameras for tears and sympathy. And when that happens, can the race card be far behind? It also makes health-care rationing a certainty.
Even more insidious, it allows him to establish his true goal, which is to have a single-payer government program. I know he continues to deny this, but the YouTube video from his 2003 AFL-CIO appearance contradicts his denial of today: "I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health-care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world … cannot provide basic insurance to everyone."
Remember his telling us that there would be no penalties for those who didn't have health care? Carole Fader, in the Florida Times Union, writes, "Beginning in 2014, people who do not get health insurance will be fined. The W-2 reporting requirement will help the Internal Revenue Service verify that people have coverage for themselves and their dependents. The requirement will also help the IRS more easily collect tax on the so-called 'Cadillac' health-insurance policies, those that cost significantly more than national average. The 'Cadillac' tax goes into effect in 2018."
Judge for yourself how many of "Obama's Top Five Health-Care Lies," by Shikha Dalmia, have been confirmed less than one year after the fact (Forbes.com; July 1, 2009).
There's a reason why we are fighting for the defunding and repeal of Obamacare. It's because it's the worst piece of legislation ever, next to the New Deal and Great Society initiatives. There's also a reason why the Republican hierarchy won't fight against it for us – and it's not just because they're moral cowards. And the reason Obama doesn't care if he's a one-term president is that he knows that the socialist handbooks of the future will hail him as a hero for instituting programs Democrats will forever support and Republicans will never repeal.
