The work by Cleon Skousen takes readers back to the Founding Fathers and explains the problems they faced and how they dealt with them.

The fruit of the Founders' efforts was an economic powerhouse that offered wealth to the average citizens along with protection of their rights. Skousen shows how 28 principles – unlike those anywhere else – were used to create freedom and prosperity.

Therein lies the book's title, a nation that literally made a 5,000-year leap in progress.

Skousen writes how, shortly after the Constitution was enacted, a free-enterprise system – an economy with little government influence that flourishes with competition of businesses – was established. He credits that system with enabling America to become the most advanced and powerful nation the world ever has known.

Inside his narrative of success, Skousen weaves a story of America as a Christian nation, guided by divine providence and created for the liberty and rights of mankind.

He goes further to look at problems throughout history, such as a national debt, and explains how they arise from a failure to follow the Constitution.
