You say Cordoba, I say Muslim conquest. The storm surrounding the Cordoba mosque in New York City is growing larger. It has many Americans fearful of what our future holds if a Muslim mosque is built two blocks from Ground Zero. Before I really dug deep to research this controversy I was conflicted. On one hand I felt disrespected, as most Americans feel; on the other I felt everyone has the religious right to build where they want to build. However, we aren't talking about a peace-loving religion like Buddhism. We're talking about the very religion that caused our country enormous heartache. It's like putting a Nazi support group next to Auschwitz.
I realize that it was a group of radical Muslims who blew up the Twin Towers, but that is no excuse. If it had been a group of radical Christians, I wouldn't want them building a church on that ground, either. I also realize that not all Muslims are extremists, but I do question how "peaceful" the religion is considering its treatment and attitude toward women as well as the implication of violence toward non-believers.
Let us put things into perspective, shall we? The American idea of freedom of religion came from our Founding Fathers. At that time people weren't flying planes into our buildings, and domestic terrorism from Muslim extremists wasn't something our country was dealing with. It is my belief that our Founding Fathers would have been more specific in their freedom-of-religion campaign had they known the price would be our Twin Towers and the thousands of Americans inside. This country has given shelter to many who are under attack for their beliefs, but when their beliefs start attacking our people, that's when we have problems.

If a radical sect of the Muslim faith hadn't been at the heart of such a horrific massacre, there would be no argument from me, period. I have nothing against someone's right to live freely, until his lifestyle affects my right to live freely. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a peaceful mosque. If the people pushing for this cause were so peaceful and loving, they would respect our country and respect the Americans who lost their lives on Sept. 11. Why are they pushing so hard to build this mosque when it is clearly causing turmoil? This is a big country, plenty of space to build anywhere you like. But they chose two blocks from Ground Zero? On top of that, they want to call it Cordoba.

Let us wander into history for a moment. The first Cordoba mosque in Spain was built after the Moors, a Muslim people, conquered the Spanish city of Cordoba, which was under the Roman Empire at the time. Now, it seems suspicious that Muslims would like to build a mosque near Ground Zero and call it Cordoba, which symbolizes conquest. It's not a coincidence. This appears to be a well-calculated show put on by those who support this mosque, and it is destructive to the core.
The Cordoba mosque in New York would not represent peace, and it most certainly would not represent tolerance. Will they welcome Christians or Jews or any other faith with open arms? Will they welcome the "Western world" into their house of worship? They do not respect this country, they do not respect our culture, and they do not respect the lives that were lost at the hands of their own people. This might not matter to politicians, but it matters to Americans.

I am not surprised that a slew of politicians, including our Muslim-raised president, are backing the efforts of this mosque. If we had a nickel every time our "leaders" let us down, we wouldn't be in the red, that's for sure. I'd just like to know, will we ever have leaders who actually care more about our country than their own selfish agenda? Who will be the one to say enough is enough? Who will protect our country from those who seek to destroy us?
Many supporters of this mosque say that opposition stems from Islamophobia. I'd have to agree. I am absolutely afraid of the Islamic radicals, because their followers kill people every day all over the world. They kill their own family members who stray from the Muslim faith in the name of "honor." They join our military and shoot our soldiers on U.S. soil, and they hate everything associated with Western culture. So I'd say I have every right to be fearful of Islam.
Our representatives should read the book, "Now They Call Me Infidel." It's an autobiography of a woman who was born and raised in the Muslim culture. She recalls her childhood in the Middle East where she was taught school nursery rhymes that involved killing Jews. How is that peaceful? She eventually moved to the U.S. and converted to Christianity. And I think her personal experience within the Islamic culture gives an example of the extreme beliefs that we experience today.
What I find to be the most disgusting through this entire sham is this: The St. Nicholas Church was damaged when the second World Trade Center Tower crashed down. Since then, this Greek Orthodox Church has been trying to rebuild, but state officials have placed several roadblocks in their way. So, our leaders are refusing to accommodate a Christian church, yet they've put in an express lane for this Muslim mosque. Try to figure that one out.

My dose of honesty for our spineless jelly-officials: You make true Americans sick to their stomachs. I have never felt more ashamed of our leadership than I do at this very moment. I feel completely let down. It's a good thing my faith in Christ is so strong. I can always count on the One to make things right. And I truly believe that He will.
