It caused Sean Hannity to pull out of last February's Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., where he had been slated to appear as keynote speaker. When Hannity withdrew from the CPAC lineup, Glenn Beck stepped in. (Though this has not been previously reported, my source is highly placed and utterly reliable.)
It was also a big reason Gov. Sarah Palin opted not to speak at CPAC, long the nation's largest and most influential annual gathering of conservatives.
It caused WorldNetDaily, as well as major conservative institutions like Liberty University, to drop their planned sponsorship of the event.

"It" … is GOProud, the homosexual activist organization masquerading as a "traditional conservative" group, whose acceptance as official sponsor of CPAC caused many traditionally minded individuals and groups to pull out – on principle. GOProud is being embraced by many big-tent Republicans, ever-hoping they'll win elections and power by compromising on the core values that underpin a free America.
Yesterday, "it" caused WorldNetDaily to drop conservative superstar Ann Coulter from the speaker lineup of WND's upcoming "Taking America Back" conference in Miami. Why? Because Coulter is scheduled to be the much-ballyhooed keynote speaker at GOProud's big "HOMOCON 2010" bash next month. Although WND warned Coulter repeatedly that she would be giving major legitimacy to what is really a gay-activist group and its subversive agenda, and that if she went ahead we would not in good conscience be able to feature her at our conference, she didn't relent and we were forced to disinvite her.

So, what exactly is GOProud, and what's all the ruckus about? According to its website:
GOProud represents gay conservatives and their allies. GOProud is committed to a traditional conservative agenda that emphasizes limited government, individual liberty, free markets and a confident foreign policy. GOProud promotes our traditional conservative agenda by influencing politics and policy at the federal level.

GOProud's Federal Legislative Priorities include conservative-sounding items like TAX REFORM," "FIGHTING GLOBAL EXTREMISTS," "DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION," "ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP" and others.
Though this looks pretty good at first glance, there's this little advisory that "GOProud’s agenda emphasizes conservative and libertarian principles that will improve the daily lives of all Americans, but especially gay and lesbian Americans. (emphasis added).
Hmm, wonder what that means? Read the fine print and you'll understand what's really behind these great conservative-sounding positions:
TAX REFORM – Death tax repeal; domestic partner tax equity, and other changes to the tax code that will provide equity for gays and lesbians; cut in the capital gains and corporate tax rates to jump start our economy and create jobs; a fairer, flatter and substantially simpler tax code.
FIGHTING GLOBAL EXTREMISTS – Standing strong against radical regimes who seek to criminalize gays and lesbians.

DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION – Opposing any anti-gay federal marriage amendment.
ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP – Package of free market reforms to encourage and support small businesses and entrepreneurship in the gay community.
Wait a minute. This sounds an awful lot like a mainline homosexual-rights organization pretending to be "traditional conservative" and fooling Republicans. Could Republicans be that clueless? Don't answer.
Now add to this list another "traditional conservative" position from GOProud's published legislative agenda, namely "DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL REPEAL – Repeal of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy." Oh, now that's conservative. Virtually every general in history – including these 1,100 – thinks it's a rotten idea.

And of course, "DEFENDING THE CONSTITUTION" (opposing anti-gay federal marriage amendment) actually translates into that old conservative chestnut, SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.
Excuse me? Same-sex marriage? Men marrying men and women marrying women? The most bizarre perversion of human civilization's core institution, with nary a precedent in the last 5,000 years, which turns morality, sexuality, marriage and family – the entire core of Judeo-Christian values – on its head? This is "conservative"?
This, friends, is conservatism GOProud-style: Just call for smaller government, lower taxes and defending the country – obvious things anyone who isn't demented already agrees with – and then throw in all the insanely self-destructive and perverse policies you want, and just label them all "traditional conservative"! Presto!
Obviously, GOProud has every right to exist, publish, lobby, organize, whatever it wants to do – including getting Ann Coulter or whomever else it can induce by monetary or other means to speak to its assembled faithful. But please, spare us the incredible dishonesty of claiming to be "conservative."

Ultimately, of course, GOProud isn't really the problem here, is it?
The problem is that the very moral soul of America – biblical morality, Judeo-Christian values, the Ten Commandments – is being slowly sucked out of the conservative movement as though with a giant spiritual vacuum cleaner. And what it's leaving behind is a shell of conservatism, which we call libertarianism – smaller government, lower taxes and so on – but at its core, a philosophy that ignores the very moral and spiritual values America's founding fathers honored and cherished above all else.
Ironically, conservatives are always warning the GOP not to be so stupid as to move to the political left in the vain delusion that will result in a larger voting base and more electoral victories. And yet, some of the very conservatives who warn the GOP not to move to the left politically are themselves moving to the left morally!
If they understood how evil works, they'd see it's all the same thing, and leading us all to the same sad end.
