Democrats were nervous in July when they realized that conservative, but non-Republican Party, groups were planning to spend at least $300 million to defeat the Pelosi-Reid congressional majority. Since then, more such groups with (maybe $400 million total) have made it clear that they are also after RHINO Republicans.
The Democrats have responded by falling back on the 11.3 million union members in the AFLCIO and the 5 million or so unionized government workers. Starting this Labor Day, organized labor has pledged whatever it takes to protect the Pelosi-Reid majority and the gold plated retirement benefits of unionized "working Americans."
With Democratic voter enthusiasm down sharply from 2008, the spearhead of the Democratic Party re-election campaign is a plan for paid "volunteers" to knock on 400,000 doors of "disenchanted Obama supporters."

But what will they say when the door is answered?
Paid volunteer (beaming): "Hi (insert name of disenchanted Obama supporter), I'm from the Democratic Party and we want your vote because of all the wonderful accomplishments of Obama, Reid and Pelosi."

Disenchanted Obama supporter (behind the screen door, skeptical): "Really? What 'accomplishments' are you talking about?"
Paid volunteer (somewhat defensive now): "Well, the Recovery Act stimulated the economy which would have been so much worse if Obama and Congress had not acted. And the health-care reform will make better health care available to more people while saving everyone money. Oh, and we stopped the Iraq war, too. We need your vote on Nov. 2 to keep the Republicans from taking us back to the failed days of George Bush."

Disenchanted Obama supporter (shifting his feet, looking down): "I voted for Obama – but the economy "could have been worse"? I was in the Navy, and you folks make drunken sailors look stingy. And what do we have to show for all the spending?
I'm lucky, I guess. I have a job, but my hours have been cut back. My brother-in-law and my sister are out of work, and I'm supporting my kids and theirs. I'm behind on the mortgage payments on their house and mine, too. You folks in Washington bailed out the fat cat bankers – called them too big to fail. Out here, we feel like we're to small to be noticed.
And health care? My employer says the premiums are up 26 percent from last year due to the "reform," and I'm gonna have to pay the difference out of my own pocket. As for Iraq, I'm glad to see the troops come home. Or at least some of them. Did we win?"
Paid volunteer (flustered): "Well, health care isn't perfect but re-elect Democrats and we'll fix the problems. We've kept our promises."

Disenchanted Obama supporter (looking PV in the eye now): "Yeah, I remember. Hope and change. Well, can't pay the mortgage or feed the family on hope. Can't live on the change left over when I pay the bills. Out here, I have to live within my means. And it's getting tougher. Tell Obama I didn't even get one vacation this year." (door closes) (Paid volunteer turns, head down, and walks away).
Inside the house, the disenchanted Obama supporter picks up the newspaper he had been reading. He scans the headline describing fewer new unemployment claims as a "sign of recovery" and looks briefly at an article about Obama's newest plan to "help small business" right next to an article about another store downtown closing its doors. He throws the paper down in disgust and sits quietly as the gathering dusk darkens the room.
John Edwards was right: There are two Americas. One America is the everyday citizen trying to make ends meet. The other America is the ruling elite of a nanny culture with unlimited ideas on how to run everything and everybody – and they are running our once great country into the ground.
