The media's reports masking the true state of our country and economy under the 19 month stewardship of Barack Obama may be the single most patriotic expression I have seen from them in years.
Covering for this president may the be glue holding our nation and its fragile economy together. If the truth were exposed, confidence would collapse, spending would dry up and we would go into a 1929 style depression. Confidence is critical right now, and Mr. Obama's decisions erode confidence each day.
This resurgence of patriotism coming from the media generally appears during Democratic presidencies. The glowing reports during bad times were commonplace during Kennedy and Carter. We even had an impeached, deviant president who walked on water in the eyes of the press. And who could ever forget how the press covered for FDR?

The media took great pains to mask the physical frailty of FDR, who was left a paraplegic after a bout with polio in his earlier years. Camera angles were meticulously calculated when taking pictures. Film crews would use bunting and tablecloths to hide the braces and crutches. Even every word of copy written about the president was scoured so as not to give as much as a hint of any handicap.
Why the great cause for concern? It was feared that FDR's physical weakness would portray an image of political or strategic weakness. Nothing could be more destructive to the nation during a time of war than to see its commander in chief in a weakened state.

This is a far cry from the media treatment afforded George Herbert Walker Bush or his son, George W Bush. Ronald Reagan endured relentless attack for trying to clean up the Carter mess. But since the media views Republicans as evil, old white guys who steal from the poor to give to the rich, they were only being "objective" in reporting the "truth."
If that same thirst for truth was present for this Democratic president, we would see we are in a real mess.

America just logged its ninth month in a row of increased home foreclosures. Approximately $464 billion worth of mortgages are in foreclosure, and another $1.4 trillion of mortgages are either behind or close to default. The housing market – after eight failed Obama administration housing programs – is still in the toilet. Even restructured loans default at a more than a 50 percent rate.
Between January and October 2009, under Mr. Obama's watchful eye, we lost 4.1 million jobs. It was the worst year of job loss since 1940. Yet media reports from hacks like Charlie Gibson about
losing 539,000 jobs in one month were accompanied with words like "marked improvement" or the "economy shows signs of improving."
This new metric of "saved or created" jobs was laughed at by prominent economists but was perfectly acceptable to the press. Talk of "how much worse it could have been" always brings a smile to my face. But it's no laughing matter. His blaming of Bush went unchallenged as Mr. Obama became the worst jobs president since his hero, FDR, from 1933-45.
A small bit of research reveals network mentions of presidential administrations were 13 times more negative under Mr. Reagan than Mr. Obama in the first two years. The Reagan administration was connected to negative job data twice as often as Mr. Obama with the exact same rate of 9.4 percent in the first seven months of both presidents. Apparently "good" news follows Mr. Obama, and "bad" news followed Reagan.

Now 829 banks are on the FDIC "troubled bank" list. This is just the tip of the iceberg as commercial real estate, the collateral anchoring many bank loans, continues to decline beyond the 30 percent drop it experienced this past year.
Going into the elections I am sure we will hear about Social Security, as the Democrats claim Republicans want to throw old ladies out on the street. Fact is, millions of baby boomers are set to retire, massively swelling the ranks of beneficiaries receiving checks. In the past there were 42 workers paying into the system for every one recipient. Today that number is two workers for every one recipient. I wonder how soon it will be before those checks start to bounce as Democrats demagogue the issue. But that will be seen as good news from the Paul Reveres in the media.
Far be it from me to rain on the patriotic parade that the media is throwing for this president. Why let the facts distort the delusions the media hold about their savior?
They helped package, polish and promote Mr. Obama, who is a borrow-and-spend liberal, as a visionary politician of hope and change. The media made sure the masses would vote for Mr. Obama when they refused to do even an ounce of investigation into the background of a man we now know to be a big government socialist with some very strange approaches to leadership.

Mr. Obama is not only promising a chicken in every pot for those who take from the federal trough, but he is throwing in the stove and house to cook it in. Now 41.8 million Americans receive food stamps, 58 percent of households receive some form of government assistance and millions collect years of unemployment checks. That dependence must make Mr. Obama and his czars extremely happy.
I hope this media "patriotism" will not run out when everyone finally realizes we need a grown-up with the experience and wisdom to know that less government, lower taxes and less burdens on businesses and individuals are what is needed to save this nation.
If that "patriotism" wears off, and the media treats this president like they did past Republican presidents, we have a big problem. If the people wake up and realize how much money Mr. Obama is spending and the long-term damage he is inflicting on the country as a whole, there will be citizens standing at the White House gates demanding their country back.
