I never thought I'd be so happy to hear, "I won't be back." Arnold Schwarzenegger has been due for retirement since "Last Action Hero." That's two hours of my life I can't get back, on top of the seven years he served as governor of California. Arnold is leaving his post with a 22 percent approval rating, and I can't imagine why.
With a motto like, "Failure is not an option" he sure left a lot of lifeless bodies in his path of destruction. Consider California's budget. He laid off thousands of state employees, held the paychecks of those who were lucky enough to keep their jobs as ransom and enforced furlough days on everyone but himself. And to go out with a bang, he tripled California's deficit.
It has been rumored that Arnold will now take on the role of Captain Planet as he plans his attack against styrofoam cups. I thought he would have learned his lesson, but apparently the muscle head has big plans to save the Earth. One step at a time. Perhaps he should have focused more on saving his state. He, too, has turned out to be a liberal in sheep's clothing. He's married to a Kennedy for crying out loud. How could you marry someone whose values are nothing like your own? That goes to show you he's not as strong in his beliefs as a governor should be. I'm sure some people can make it work, but eventually you start to rub off on one another and one is sure to prevail over the other.

What else did this fine Austrian native accomplish? As a parting gift, and what I believe to be the final "up yours" to California, the Governator reduced the sentence of convicted criminals. Many lowlifes saw his hand of fate. Former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez's son, Esteban Nunez, was supposed to serve 16 years for his role in the death of college student Luis Santos. But according to Schwarzenegger, Nunez, although involved in the fight that ended in Santos' death, did not inflict the fatal knife wound. It was Esteban Nunez's friend Ryan Jett who stabbed Santos, "severing his heart."

Apparently the "S" man is a lawyer now, claiming that Nunez's sentence is excessive. What does he know about excessive? It was excessive when Luis Santos was stabbed to death. Nunez could have walked away, he could have stopped his friend from murdering that kid, but he didn't. And Arnold cuts his sentence in half? Detective John Kimble would have never let that happen. So what the heck? Does Arnold seriously think he knows better than a judge who went to law school and spent years as a lawyer trying case after case? Come on! He never even played a judge, so who does he think he is?
Don't get me started on the blatant "favorites" game, either. Do you think its coincidence that Nunez's father had connections to Arnold? The kicker is Conan the Barbarian didn't even have the guts to tell Santos' family to their face. They heard about it from some reporter that the man who helped kill their son was getting a reduced sentence. Happy New Year, Mr. and Mrs. Santos – the governor thinks your son's life is worth seven years.

The fact that this meathead could become governor is one thing, but to remain governor? That kills me. The damage he's done is irreversible; he should be put in the middle of the city where we all can throw rotten tomatoes at him. My dose of honesty: Let's all run for governor; apparently California will elect anyone. I'm sure if Arnold hadn't won, Gary Coleman would have. After seeing what Schwarzenegger is capable of, Coleman couldn't have done much worse.
