During a radio interview in New York City, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee suggested Barack Obama grew up in Kenya, and that has helped form the president's worldview.
The Republican was responding to a question yesterday from Steve Malzberg of WOR Radio, who asked, "How come we don't have a health record, we don't have a college record, we don't have a birth certificate? Why, Mr. Obama, did you spend millions of dollars in courts all over this country to defend against having to present a birth certificate? It's one thing to say, 'You've seen it. Goodbye.' But why go to court and send lawyers to defend against having to show it? Don't you think we deserve to know more about this man?"

"I would love to know more, but what I know is troubling enough," said Huckabee, who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2008 and may run again in 2012.
"One thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, (is) very different than the average American," he said, noting Obama's move two years ago to return a bust of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill that was on loan from former Prime Minister Tony Blair in the days after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

"The bust of Winston Churchill, a great insult to the British," Huckabee continued. "But then if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather."

"He despises the West, he despises the Brits, and I think he can take it all out on Israel," responded Malzberg.
A spokesman for Huckabee later told CBS News the former governor "meant to say the president grew up in Indonesia."
"When the governor mentioned he wanted to know more about the president, he wasn't talking about the president's place of birth – the governor believes the president was born in Hawaii," Hogan Gidley told the network. "The governor would however like to know more about where President Obama's liberal policies come from and what else the president plans to do to this country – as do most Americans."
As Huckabee continued with the radio interview, he addressed doubts many have about Obama's birth certificate, explaining, "The only reason I'm not as confident that there's something about the birth certificate ... is because I know the Clintons and believe me, they have lots of investigators out on him, and I'm convinced if there was anything that they could have found on that, they would have found it, and I promise they would have used it."

Some news agencies, including the Associated Press and CBS News, are reporting today that Obama has shown his Hawaiian birth certificate online, but what has been viewed on the Internet is an image of a Certification of Live Birth, also known as a short-form. What many in the public have been asking to see is the long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate, known as a Certificate of Live Birth, which includes details such as the name of the hospital and the attending physician.
