The Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, is holding this week a "Hold Their Feet to The Fire 2011" national town hall on immigration with some 50 radio talk hosts from across the United States, led by Roger Hedgecock of Radio America Network, broadcasting from Washington, D.C.
Interviewing members of Congress, immigration reform experts and law enforcement personnel, the radio talk show hosts are emphasizing the following themes:
- The need to enact mandatory use of E-Verify by all U.S. employers to protect American workers from losing jobs to illegal immigrants;
- The refusal of the Obama administration to enforce effectively existing immigration laws;
- The mounting costs of illegal immigration at the federal and local level;
- Public opposition to all amnesty or legalization proposals for illegal immigrants;
- The need to reduce overall levels of immigration to the United States.
"The Obama administration has stifled local and state efforts to enforce immigration laws, dismantled interior enforcement and continues to push an amnesty agenda using backdoor methods," said Bob Dane, communications director of FAIR and the event manager for "Hold Their Feet to the Fire 2011."
This year, with the largest gathering ever of talk radio hosts, the goal is not just to stop bad immigration legislation in its tracks but to advance positive reforms that relieve many of the burdens that mass immigration – legal and illegal – imposes on the American people, Dane said.
