Conservative activists and tea party supporters are being called to Kansas City in September for the Freedom Jamboree, an event Sept. 28 to October 2 that is is billed as a tailgate party for rank and file tea party supporters.
Chairman William Temple says the event at the Woodlands Racetrack is supposed to be a platform for tea party supporting candidates.
"We want to give those candidates who have supported the movement in word and deed an opportunity to speak and educate all of the tea party groups from all 50 states," Temple stated.
"It's so they can present themselves to the tea parties without being submerged in a Republican establishment environment," Temple asserted.
"So we've invited all of those national candidates to come and speak and present themselves," Temple also said.
Temple's list of candidates he's invited includes Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, and if he chooses to attend, Donald Trump.
Temple says he wants to prevent the Freedom Jamboree from resembling a Conservative Political Action Conference.
"Rather than have anybody show up and vote, we're going to have each tea party and 9/12 group select a delegate and vote for their group, any group that registers online," Temple added.
However, Temple says a third party or a nominating convention is not the purpose of the event.
"We would no more try to form a third party in this little bit of time between now and the 2012 election next year. No, our intention is to make sure that the tea party candidates, the ones that have supported our movement, are included in the balloting from the Republican National Convention next year," Temple explained.
"This is rather than waiting until 2012, like it happened in 2008 that we are suddenly told by the parties and our national media who our candidates are," Temple stated.
"As I've said before, it's a straw poll and it's not binding on any particular candidate," Temple added.
Temple said that some of the tea party activists are very vocal about the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility and some are not.
"That's part of the Constitution. That's part of the law. We believe of course that the president has the obligation to prove his citizenship if there's a question," Temple stated.
"He needs make that available just so there is no national concern there. That's the responsibility of he and his party, not the party of those of us who have reasonable doubts," Temple said.
Project 21 is a group of conservative black political scientists, activists and scholars who support the tea party and other conservative movements.
Deneen Borelli is a scholar with Project 21 and she says her group's Freedom Jamboree participation has a purpose: To proclaim the message of liberty and personal responsibility.
"I'm looking forward to participating in this event because you're going to have freedom loving Americans who will be assembling over the course of a weekend to come together and support each other and learn from each other," Borelli commented.
"We'll especially learn about the different policies that are coming out of the Obama administration," Borelli said.
She says she's noticed that there is opposition to the tea party message, and her objective is to get Project 21 and the tea party's message to a wider audience.
"There are those on the left who don't want our message of liberty, self-independence and limited government to get out to individuals who are not necessarily part of the tea party movement," Borelli stated.
"Our message is about liberty; it's about individuals to make choices and decisions that are best for them. Hopefully there will be a lot of people who will come and they can take that message back to their community so other people can learn," Borelli asserted.
Borelli adds that she's not coming to the event to promote a specific candidate. Her mission is to promote liberty.
She adds that she will also address the convention about the importance of America's energy policy to freedom and a growing economy.
"I live in New York and gasoline is going up on a regular basis and it's over $4 per gallon," Borelli related.
"Obama has a war on fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas. What he needs to understand is that we need reliable and affordable energy in order to grow our economy," Borelli explained.
"Right now, Obama is focused on renewable energy such as wind and solar, which really today cannot address our energy needs. Those sources of energy are much more expensive than fossil fuels," Borelli explained further.
"So in order to drive our economy and create jobs, we need cheap, reliable energy. Unfortunately, right now, Obama officials are doing everything they can to block mining, drilling and to block drilling for oil," Borelli added.
Borelli points out that presently fossil fuels provide over 80 percent of the nation's energy. She also states her belief that Obama is focused on driving up the cost of oil.
"If you look at wind and solar combined, it's maybe seven percent of our nation's energy supply. What the administration is trying to do is cause fossil fuels to be more expensive so renewable sources of energy will be competitively priced," Borelli stated.
"It should be the free market that determines what energy the consumers use," Borelli said. "Forty percent of our corn is being burned to produce ethanol for gasoline. That corn should be used to feed our livestock and to feed our people."
"Those higher costs are driving the cost of groceries up and causing higher fuel prices as well," Borelli also said.
Project 21's chairman is WND Mychal Massie.
WND previously has reported on Operation Black Storm, a movement to campaign to elect black conservatives to elective office.
The tea party movement and Operation Black Storm sent two of their candidates to Washington, former Army Lt. Col. Allen West in Florida's 22nd Congressional District and Tim Scott in South Carolina's 1st District.
